Am I right to think that removing two baffles from the stock pipes won't give me the same performance upgrade as custom pipes?
Thanks, mike

It'll make it noisier, and if you rejet to match you'll get a little extra performance out of it, but that's not going to match a set of properly designed aftermarket pipes.

Thanks. So if that's the case is there any agreement about which pipes give you the biggest boost? I've read a lot about sound, but not much about differences (if any) in power.
Thanks again!

You won't be dissapointed with any of the aftermarket pipes performance wise.

Depends on what you want to do. Pipes are not going to get you from mid 14s to 13 in the 1/4. They make a lot more noise and a little more power. Then again, I believe the power is really coming from the rejetting, better air flow and no snorkels.
I am probably wrong, I drilled my pipes, jetted, put in a K&N, and lost my snorkels. I am very happy with my performance. I don't make as much noise as aftermarket though. You will sound a lot louder and Sceptre makes great pipes.

You will love the Thunderpipes. Really feel the difference in the seat of the pants..... a little too loud for my old ears, but I think I may just be a little too sensitive..... I would love to hear them running down the road...

I have been wondering about this relationship between noise (which I don't care for, gives me headache), and performance. I removed the first baffles which made it plenty loud for me, modified the snorkel,(cut off the tails), put in a K&N filter and rejetted 130 not that it really needed but it seems to run better. Really the purpose of all the rhetoric is to ask; Can I make this bike run good without all the noise?

Just my 2 cents, the answer is "yes."
When it's all said and done, I'm guessing the most additional gain without increasing bore or changing from naturally aspirated carbs to induced air carbs is maybe a 3 or 4 HP increase? While 3 or 4, or 6 or 8 horse are almost always welcomed, it's not like going from a moped to a Hayabusa, if you'll pardon the expression.
I have a 3,300 mile ride coming up in 3 weeks, and I'm going back to 100% stock pipes for the ride. I want the quiet and to be able to hear my audio feed.

According to the dyno the Thunderbike short pipes added 6 hp to my bike without any other changes. That being said, I put the stock pipes back on this morning and the lack of noise was truly refreshing and I didn't notice any real change in performance.

I noticed a big difference between 2 and 3 baffles removed. Recently put a -2 baffle set on thinking I could fire bike up a little later at night (my driveway is near neighbor's bedroom window), and decided to put my -3 set back on. Biggest difference is top end. I've got a third set I'm going to totally gut and make or buy a long fiberglass wrapped baffle system, a larger diameter TOR, if you will. Rode with someone that had D&Ds a while back, his sounded like when I fired mine up with no silencers, slightly deeper.
