I realize past a certain amount of turns (usually said to be 4) on the screws you should get larger pilots. But that aside, does anyone know what the max amount of turns you can do before the results level off or stop? Or do they keep getting richer till they come loose and fall out or at a certain amount of turns does it just level off and stay the same no matter how much further you go?

At least on the CRS carburetors, there's only so far the idle air screws can come out, before they literally come out of the carburetor body.

I know. I've taken them out before to slot them. But they unscrew a ways past the 4 turns often quoted as the point at whick you should go to bigger pilots. I'm just wondering if there is more richening taking place between 4 turns and where the screw finally comes out.

Seems to me that once the tip is all the way out of the hole, its out.

This seems like as good a place as any to ask this question - where are these adjuster screws? I must be stupid because I can't figure out which ones they are. Can you get to them with the tank still on the bike? I have seen the diagram attached to the AI removal document and still can't figure it out. Can someone tell me exactly where to look?
I took my bike in for 6K service today to have the carbs sync'd and they removed my AI but I don't think they richened the mixture because it is still popping.

They're in a hole right next to the wires that connect at the bottom of the carbs. On the right side they are on the side of the wires closest to the side cover. On the left they are inside, or in other words one the side of the wires closest to the inner side of the carb. It's easiest to remove the wires to get to them. And you need a D tool to adjust them. Or what i and many others did, remove the screws with a home made tool like a empty.22 shell or piece of tubing about the diameter of the D screw and flatten one side. It may fit sloppy but if you can just make something like that to get them out then you can slot the ends so they can be turned with a screwdriver tip. A powerdriver bit works good cuz they're short. Wrap some duct tape around the end for a grip, or like i did pound a knob like a volume knob from audio equiptment onto the end as a grip.

Probably about 4 turns.
Here's a graphic of a CV carb from NightRider

#9 is the idle mixture screw. Once you open it past a certain point (I am thinking 4 turns), you are allowing the max amount of air and any more turns wouldn't do anything. btw, that O-ring on top of the pilot screw is so no air bleeds out past the threads.
