This is a Home Depot job without a doubt.I tried acouple a things before I reached this setup but we won't go there.I used a chrome "P" trap like you use under the sink. It's 1- 1/2" 180degree with the locknuts left on both ends. I used a 2" to 1 1/2" coupler for plumbing. The 2" end hooks up the the back of the carb and the 1 1/2" end hooks to the short side of the p trap.Everything is held down with hose clamps. The K&N filters hook over the long end of the trap.I tried 142.5 main jets but it was too much.I dropped back to 135 mains and it screams. I guess I'm about 4 turns out on my air screw mixture. I had to cut my airbox back for the setup to fit. Modified my side pieces and put a small filter on the hose for my oil breather. This is a cheap man's freak.

I thought those looked like P-traps (guess I spend WAY too much time at Lowes!!!). Like the looks of it. I've seen this setup somewhere else, I think from Küryakyn, but also for a bit more money! Good job!! Just so we know what the other end of the equation is, what do you have for an exhaust?

This is copy of da boogieman's idea except he used plastic pvc pipe.I'm running short offroads with the baffles removed. I'm still testing everything and will never stop trying different things to my ride. This setup is clean so far, bro.

Wizard...VERY nice. Great look! Any problem with getting oil from the filters on your clothing? No worries about wet weather?

Hey Wiz, They look great! Gives me ideas.... Have you thought about the pre-filters to cover the K&Ns? http://www.newspeedmaster.com/html/airbox_removal_kit.html

Shoot wiz, I'd pony up a ten spot for a more detailed set of specs on how to do this. They'd have to be geared to the comprehension level of a novice (if not dangerous) wrencher, but I'd like to give it a shot. Might speed the eagle along a tad....

Well, first I cut my airbox back- up to the filter hole.I got a 2" to 1 1/2" plumbing coupler. Two inch mounts to back of carb and the other end hooks to K&N filters(kn2890 and 2900)left and right. All is attached by 2" clamps. Both sides have crome "P" traps like under the sink.Leave the locknuts on both ends. The sweet spot in tightning is on the nut.Altered both side panels, only acouple of holes for the sides to attach. It's a cheap freak so it doesn't leave all the holes to put your sides back on. I Rejetting from 132 to 135 mains running short offroads with the baffles removed.Your right, I'm a fairly dangerous wrench!

Wiz, is anything from the carbs on out connected to the bike? Or is the carb the last point of contact? If that's the case, it almost seems too simple. Great work to you and the Boogieman.

No, I'm going to rig up some braces to support the chrome P traps. One on the left to the top of the battery. On the right side something to attach to my inspection plate. It's really pretty stable like it is now. After my run tomorrow, I'll know if anything works loose.Pics later, dude.

Thanks for the info Wiz. You'll have to let me know where to make contribution to the pre-filter fund.....

Well, ole blue was hitting a lick on the poker run this past weekend. The wind was up to about 15mph but it ran good with all the mods I did to her. My next idea is to go install the 18t or 19t on the America. Which is the better for losing the 6th gear feeling?

Glad your intake mods worked out. Looks wicked too. As to gearing, I've read that using the 19T is great for the highway, but a real compromise when pulling away from a stop, especially carrying a load or riding 2 up. I've got an 18T and higher speeds are quite comfortable without loosing take off gearing. To each his own, as they say.

Yes, I believe I'll go with the 18th and try it. How's the seat setup coming? Love to see some pics when you get a chance. Going to the dealer for a new kickstand spring tomorrow.Ride safe, bro.

The seat for the custom has been on for a couple hundred miles. Very comfortable according to ROPER. The seat for my SM is slightly different as it covers the sides of the frame rails under the seat and tucks in behind the side panels. The upholstery guy is getting our company logo sewn into the cover in yellow/gold thread the first of next week. Should all be finished by next weekend. Pics to follow. It should all be done by the RPM open house on the 30th. Oh yeah, I got my pistol grip hand leavers back from the polishers Fri. They do look good, I must say.

On our conversion, we fabricated a mounting /support strap that attaches between the carbs and into a drilled and tapped hole on the main frame backbone. Completely hidden and the carbs are fully supported. The PVC traps/connectors/air filters weigh almost nothing anyway. Just a little insurance policy against vibrational loss.

Everything is good with the carb modifications I did to the America. I had about 120 miles on the tank when I filled up. I hadn't went to reserve yet, so It probably would've gotten a few more mpg.It runs like a champ and is fairly stable without any support added yet.Ride safe.

I finally found an embroidery shop willing to do the unusual. Most seem very uncertain about it if it's not already in their computer. Going to look at test samples Wed. or Thurs. If I like the design, I'm going to have the seat, my jacket, a couple shirts, and maybe a cap all done.

wizard, have you noticed any pulsing while riding, where it feels a little like the engine is fighting itself a little at certain RPM ranges...

Bayern710, what exactly do you mean by pulsing? I have the airbox gutted and the bottom cut out with a Uni, and I'm not sure what you mean. I don't notice anything except more power. I also can't hear it over my pipes though. Is the pulsing a sound, or something in the throttle, or what?

Triumphant, just posted under Performance Mods, but it's an acutal slight surge if I hold the throttle steady at around 55mph, clears up once I hit about 62 though. Does that help. And yeah, I've got more power too, everything is great except that one spot at 50-60. What's weird, is it is at that speed, even if I drop it down to 4th, and bring up the revs....

No, I haven't noticed any pulsing since doing the mods. I can really hear the air sucking thru the carbs. It runs like a bat out of hell. Sometimes it pops a little when first started. I think from the gas sitting in the carbs. We rode 100 or so miles two up( with the ole lady) and it pulled strong the whole ride.Love it!
