It ain't worth the frustration. Let him have his memories, and you have your bike.

Their memory validates them and lets them keep something cool or cooler than now. Deep down inside they are saying "Wow, I wish I had one of them".

The fact that they are talking, means your bike has an impact on them. Consider it a compliment.

On a lighter note, I once had a drunk guy get all excited to hear me fire up my bike as I was leaving. After regaling me with tales of the old days and answering all his questions (read: the usual), I fired it up and cracked the throttle on that 270 degree firing engine. He looked puzzled and slurred, "That don't sound like no Trumpet!" He was crestfallen.

I'm an "old dude" who had a 71 Triumph. Believe me the new ones are a lot easier to live with. Electric start, counter balanced engine, more chrome, cool cruiser look. When my old Trophy would refuse to start I would wear myself out trying to kick start it. Things are alot better now

I to am an old dude, and just today I had another old dude ask me if my bike was a new one or an old one. I told him it was a new one and his reply was"thats nice, does it have the lucas ignition?" No it doesnt,I replied, it has the best of both new and old. Well he said, Thats good. I have a huricane in my garage that I have owned since it was new and it is a ****** to get going if you dont tinker with it.Just another old guys view of the new and old. After all, we are supposed to progress and improve, right? Dont get me wrong. The old bikes are classics but the new ones have improved.

We've all heard the " Oh, I didn't know they were making Triumphs anymore. When did they start back in production?" line. I just say that they never stopped making them. Usually they give a compliment before I ride away.

Some old dude stopped at my house on an old 650 Bonnie. So to make a long story short. He told me my bike wasn't a Triumph. Real old dude.

Yep! Ya see, REAL motorsickles last about 40,000 miles(maybe) before they have to be rebuilt.

That there thing you're ridin' boy will probably last...say...TWICE THAT before y'all gots to do anything to it.

So...I can see(wink, wink) why that "old(and set in his ways) dude" said that.

Can ya BLAME him???

Cheers,
Dwight
(trust me....I have a "real" Triumph(1970 T120) and a new one(2002 BA) and love 'em both, but I wouldn't THINK of riding the older one[and it doesn't have any Lucas or Amal crap left on it] HALF as far as I'd take the newer one)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
