I know this has been posted here not too long ago, but here is the announcement from Canton Cycles' Sept. news letter:
"Change always involves opportunities and decisions. After receiving an offer from Gengras Harley Davidson/Buell, we have decided to relinquish the BMW and the Triumph franchises. A letter of intent has been signed. We expect the deal to be completed in a matter of months. Gengras is renovating a new location in East Hartford for these two lines plus his Ducati franchise."
I think this is a good for Triumph. Not because I don't like Canton, but because it puts them at a major dealerhship in the center of the state. It also offers potential HD owners direct comparison shopping, because the Gengras HD dealership is right in the same vicinity.
"Eric Von Zipper will return!"

It seems like HD is letting it's dealers sell other brands. I always thought that HD frowned on that.

You'll only ever see HD and Buell in the same BUILDING but I don't know that there is anything they can say about some guy opening up another buisness all together.

I think it's Canton...as in Connecticut.
Unless they've built an East Hartford while I was gone!

thats good and bad news for me...bought my bike at Canton but its a 50 mile ride for me to get there. East Hartford is about 20. But now I guess i'll have to deal with the "you didnt buy it here" service.

I bet they'll be cool with it. The sooner you get in the door, the better off. They will be looking for a customer base when they first open. They may even "take" the customers with them.

The oldest HD dealer in Brisbane, AU is Morgan & Wacker who also happen to be the oldest BMW dealer. They don't have the two marques in the same building, but in identically branded & presented buildings across the road from each other.

Well its not good for me, Winsted CT (Canton Cycle is located) is 15 minutes away stright up Rt 8. Now I will have the pleasure of 35 miles on I 84 through Hartford. And I agree the "You did not buy it here?" Responce will be a problem. I already called Gengras, told them of the 10% discount for two years I got at Canton Cycle. "Oh we can do something for you." Yea if you f*^king want me to buy another Triumph from Gengras. Worst thing will loose the personal touch of a small dealer. If not satisfied another sucker will come in the door. Hope this is not Gengras motto. I did know a Gengras Volvo mechanic he would rpt customers car problems to service manager: Oh wait till the warranty expires then we tell the customer.Libby in New Haven may get a lot of customers. I almost bought the TBA there but was just too far to travel, Boy did I get that one wrong.

Hey Johnathan you dont have to do the rt 84 thing. Shoot up 8 north to 44. you can take 44 right into Hartford it would be shorter mileage wise and a lot nicer ride from where you are. You'd only have to get on 84 for a couple miles to cross the river.

Yea I know, I usually go through Simsbury, Bloomfield to 91 N and 84 E. But I just wanted to whine, because I'm so angry that Canton cycle sold off their Triumph line. And I don’t trust Gengras at all. And like you said b4, "Did you buy it here?" is not longer leverage.

In Butler, PA we have a HD dealership (Zanotti's) that sells Honda and Yamaha out of the same building for as long as I can remember. I remember going there with my dad (almost 40 years ago)to buy parts for his Honda 305 Super Hawk. So apparently they do make some exceptions. Maybe they are grand-fathered or something.

When and where will the CT Triumph TBA, SM, get together and ride some day. Last Friday night was great, a little cold up on rt 57 in MA, not bad at all on 91 S to Bloomfield and over the mountain into Simsbury to Canton, a little brisk up rt 202 into Torrington. I know there are riders from Norwalk, Plainville, where else I don’t know. But lets talk about. It would be wild to have 5,6 or more Triumph TBA/SM riding together. I'm sure people would be amazed.

Must depend on where you are... In Hawaii, one H-D dealer also sell Kaw's, Triumphs, and dirt bikes... another one sells H-D's, Renegades or Revolutions or some kind of "custom chopper" and Buells, and Kaw's, street and dirt.. The thrid one sells H-D, Yamaha, lots of different kinds of dirt bikes, the made in India I cant' remember the name, with and without hacks and some other wierd stuff... Oh and the sister Honda store sells Honda, Yamahas, Ducks, BWW's and watercraft. the other Honda store also sells Yammies, ATV's and lots of Honda generators... I like... way cool to go and try on everything... and take a few test rides...the salesguys like to test ride new stuff, too...<G> Mary

well john i'd be up for a group ride I'm in East Hampton just about dead center in the state that make me about an hour from everybody.maybe some kind of informal club is in order. Trouble is I'm an old married fart and wife loves to ride 2 up. So I'd probly slow the rest of ya down carrying my skirt.

Most of the time I just like to ride. Never rode in a group. So it would be slow and easy. Maybe we could start a ride for the over what ever age. I'm 50. I still think of when I was in CA in Air Force. Got a Honda CB 500T up to 120 mph. Just the thought makes uneasy. But when I was 22 I had a different view of life (I'm indestructible) Now my mind writes checks my body can’t cash.

I just heard the news over the weekend when I stopped in. Luckily I live literally right on the border of NY and CT. Bought my bike at Ed's Service in New Hyde Park. Never regretted that. Compared to Ed's Canton was a big dealership. Besides after stopping in at Ed's you can go to the brewery for a cold one. Cheers!

friend of mine who bought one of the first vitory's that canton sold (still has less than 3000 mile on it) got a letter from them. telling him that they where giving up the BMW and Triumph lines. But where going to continue selling Victory and "Another Quality European Bike" but did not say what the bike was. They tried Ducati a few years back but gave that up....so whats that leave Moto Guzzi? Ural? not realy up on all the "Euro bikes" out there. Do the french make anything besides cheese and whine (deliberate spelling)?
