It occurred to me this morning on my commute in to to work as I donned my denim jacket for the ride in that all of you BA.com America/Speedie riders livin in the midwest and Norhteastern U.S must be donning the colder weather gear for any early morning sorties into the wild blue yonder?

Summer is fading even here in the Southwest. We have now about one and half months of really nice riding weather here in Tucson. By mid Sept the monsoons usually pretty well dry up and the mean temps drop to more tolerable day time averages and the mornings are light jacket and glove times.

Around about mid Nov or so we start to see a harder turn towards much lower overnight temps.

It must be getting chilly in Montana, Colorado and the Northeast.

Almost - I considered wearing a long sleeved t-shirt but short sleeves were fine. Maybe next month...

September riding weather is hard to beat around here!

Summer is over in Ventura county, CA. It's been in the low 70's and the riding could not be better.

We NorEasterners ride in the winter when it is well below freezing as long as the roads are reasonably clear. Artic Cat makes some great cold weatehr suits that will keep you roasty toasty in the cold.

By the way, if you're ever in 3rd Street or Russina River Brewing, stop in and say high to my friend Mark. He's a big fat guy with round beady eyes and glasses and a big frizzy head. tell him Pat says hello. You can't miss him, he's always there, especially at RR, Vinnie (the head brewer) is his bestest buddy.

A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice. Pat

Those lower temps sound good. I took an 80 ride today into the hill country and came back soaked. The temp has dropped into the mid-lower 90's but the humidity is hell. Even the bike looked droopy.

I switched from my summer gloves to leather gloves for an evening ride on Tuesday, and was darn glad I did.

It seems chaps are useful pretty much year-round except for the months of July & August. The windbreaker liner is back in the summer jacket now too.
I think I prefer cool to hot.

Morning rides, when I was stationed in Osan Korea, 76’ to 78’ I could ride in the winter as long as the temp was not below 20. Did not snow there tooo cold and dry, just southeast of Siberia. One day it took me 5 minutes to pry my fingers of the handgrips.
Any day is a good day to ride.
My current problem is where I will house TBA during winter. Wife wants in the shed, I in garage. Wife "I don’t want to scrape snow and ice off the car”‘ She work 6 pm to 6 am???. If I could, I would put TBA in basement but no way. Will update later.

Today's forecast 6"-12" snow above 5,000'. And I was hoping to meet a group of Triumph riders from Seattle on Lolo "Curves next 77 miles" Pass. Guess that's out .

It'll be light in 30 minutes, I'll peek outside then. You never know (I'm at 2,300')

I can wear my jacket in the morning without being totally overheated, but by 9 or 10 it is just too hot. I'm really looking forward to October/November when it finally cools off enough to make it really comfortable! Where I used to live in Montana, they'll have snow on the ground by then and the bikes will mostly be put to sleep for the winter!

temp hasnt been too bad here yet. mid 40s to low 50s at 5am.
fog bothers me more than cold.

I may sound like a cheap skate now (and i am) but i went out and bought a pair or Streans Dry wear fishing pants. At walmart for 20 bucks. Light weight nylon.Slip on over boots and jeans pretty easy. Mesh lined but gives me a waterproof
extra layer. And roll up small to fit in triumph slanted bags (er excuse me panniers). Keeps the hypothermia away.
But may need to try long johns underneath for late October early November.

Dateline - Ouray, CO....09/22/2006, last day of Summer.

Woke up to temps in 20s and 8" of snow on the bike. Will post the pic as soon as the lady that took it, sends it to me. Had been in Durango, CO the previous day, and was advise to get my "a$$ over the pa$$," (actually three - Coal Bank Hill Pass, 10840'; Molas Pass, 10810'; and Red Mountain Pass, 11018'). Advice well taken, as it was only cold until Silverton, and then (very dry) snow (to top of Red Mountain), and snow and rain from summit to Ouray. Got in front of a CDOT truck and Ma and Pa Kettle just outside Silverton, and had the road to myself. Interesting concept - 50-55 mph uphill, and 5-10 mph down.

Friday morning - power out in Ouray, no coffee. Make to Montrose, just in time for sleet (1/2 - 3/4" on windscreen), shift to rain, then as I get about a block from the house... yeah, you guessed it (start music - Beatles' "Here comes the Sun" of a bee). Been shining since.
