I am thinking of ordering and mounting auxiliary driving lights, hanging them below my black engine/crash bars. Two questions. First, do I need to get 35 watt bulbs, or will our bikes handle a pair of 55 watt auxiliary lights, and which fuse box terminal should I use? Second, does anybody have these or know how they are physically mounted?

Thanks,
--Tom

My Speedmaster can handle 55 watt bulbs no problem. We have around 300 watts total to work with.

According to my factory service manual, fuse 3 is for accessories on Americas & Speedmasters. The diagram is printed on the fuse box cover and here:

Fuse 1 is for "Accessory Lights" - but I'm not clear what the factory manual means by 'Accessory Lights." It could well be that's the one you want.

Forgive me for being Mr. Obvious, but, it's good to carry a boxful of extra fuses when adding lights. A 10 amp fuse can get challenged by some loads imposed upon it.

55W should be fine. Do yourself a favour and order the triumph driving light wiring harness too so you can use the custom plug beneath the tank to wire them up. Saves mucking about with your own wiring. Instead of putting the switch in the light body as Triumph wold have you do it, re-route it up to the hole for the alarm LED in the tank console and use a smaller switch with a waterproof boot. The part number for the wiring harness is in the tech vault.

Another vote for the Triumph harness, and the console switch. It's a pretty clever wiring harness design.

I believe it's the purple wire with white stripe that runs the switch circuit, but I can confirm that for you later if you go that way.

My driving lights are 55w I believe. Same JC Whiteny units a lot of guys have mounted on the forks, etc. I wired mine the old fasioned way, but I imagine the harness would be a LOT simpler. I carry a ton of extra fuses with me. 10amp especially since the blinkers and BRAKE lights are on the same 10amp fuse.

Thanks everyone. I will go with the 55 watt bulbs. Waiting to hear back from ElectricalConnection.com about the mounting brackets now.

I just finished mounting their turn signal modification kit (adding running/brake LEDs inside the rear turn signal housing). It works great with the "Tailblazer" bulb kit for the brake light, that I bought about a year ago.

Is the connector in our wiring harness (for mating the Triumph Driving Lights) under the gas tank or in the main headlight housing, and what is the color code of the wire, if anyone remembers?

Under the tank... There is now a schematic in the vault for the light bar wiring harness, so take a gander.
