If you had the opportunity to go on a month long cross country ride and could pick one person to go with you, who would it be and why? (They can be living, dead, famous, friend, anybody)
Where would you go given the choice?
I would pick my brother Rick because he's my twin brother, best buddy and an avvid motorcyclist. I'd like to go to the Grand Teton National Park and then up to Crater Lake in Oregon. In the summer of course.

Call me whipped - but my wife. She's the best packer and one hell of a trooper. All the way to Niagara on the stock speedie seat! No kids, no work- just me, her and the open road - destination unknown - probably west - TX,AZ,NV. From this site - Airguy ! He picks out the best routes!

What a great question.
I would like to say my wife, but she wouldn't even entertain the idea. I can hear her now, ride to California, why when theres a perfectly good air conditioned airplane that will do the trip in a fraction of the time.
So with that being said, I would take my dad.

Well, I'm sorry, but I can't seem to spare it down to just one soul. So, I'm goin' to say...Moses, Jesus Christ and Mohammed. Maybe by the time WE would have reached Albuquerque(starting from L.A. on old Route 66), THOSE GUYS could explain to ME why so many people, most of time, seem to screw-up THEIR philosophy so d*mn "well", and when and where EXACTLY "the wires got crossed"!!! Cheers, Dwight

Well. I'd pick George Dubya Bush. Cause I'd know I'd feel safer now than I did before 9/11. He and I would ride on forever and swap unintelligible catch phrases to keep the bad guys at bay. How could I go wrong with the man who controls the Nuclar trigger riding shotgun?

I just came back from a two week cross-country ride across western Greece and several islands. I can't complain. I always seem to be very lucky with my co-travellers (pillion) so I can't limit it to one specific person.
Across the USA is on the cards (amongst other regions).

Would have to be my dad and the destination, since we live in PA, would have to be somewhere West.

Alone would be my first choice, but that doesn't satisfy the question.
So, if I must, the 1st choice is my late dad. He wasn't a motorcyclist, but he was my pal, and we never had a road trip.
My second choice would be Martha Stewart. That ol' babe can do anything from cook up a nice road kill to changin' sprockets, I'm sure.
My third choice might be Jimmy Carter, perhaps the last remaining American leader with both common sense and moral conviction.
The trip would loop the US.

I'd pick my wife...... sadly she died on February 27th 2006 Where would I go? Around in circles forever...... Sorry if this is a bit morbid but we were married for 33 years, met when she was 15.... Oh .... and I'd like to have taken my Oesophaugus but I had to have it removed last year due to the big C. Got a 12% chance of seeing 2010.....gonna make the most of it just in case..... Sorry if I've offended anyone or screwed up a good topic. hence my motto.....
If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.

Brummie,
Sorry to hear of your loss and the condition you have just described. I wish you well and that you overcome the odds you mentioned. All the best.

I'd take my bride of 31 years. (she'd kick my tail if I took anyone else). we'd hit every state in the lower 48 + Alaska.
Brummie, Sorry for your loss. I can't imagine. I'm sure you'd love to ride just one more block with her. Ride on brother!

dooood!!!! when you ask the question you shoulda said something like....excludeing family. hahahahahaha so lets start over and get to who. of course the first thought is which babe would i want to take, but then ya realize you wouldnt want some babe out there on the road with ya, cuz you know, thats to much work, not enough room for luggage and she would need watchin after!!! hahahahaha so i pick a guy. i would say, well, i guess i would say first, if you really mean anybody, i guess i would say Jesus, wouldnt it just be great to have him alive and rideing next to you??? of course i like to think he is!!! but other than him, then i would have to say Steve McQueen for somebody famous or somebdy not famous would be an old friend that passed away some yrs ago, him and i learned to ride together, we raced moto-x together, enduro runs, and alot of other life things, we were best friends from jr. high and he had a heart attack and died. we used to always talk about what it would be like to make a trip around the country like, then came bronson or billy and capt america, but he died before we could do that so in 77/78 i did it by myself, and i was wishing all the way that he was out there with me. so if you mean anybody it would be a hard choice to make if your only talkin one person.
ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

My best friend since 1955, Dennis. Having been confined to a wheelchair since 71 due to a spinal injury obviously he can't. He's not in the greatest health either, so a sidecar or other such workarounds aren't even possible.
So yup, have to be him, tho not as much for myself as for Dennis. That would be a dream come true. He's my brother just as much as if we'd come out of the same womb.

My wife, because no one else would put up with me for that long. A month isn't long enough, but given that restriction we'd go over the Sierras hitting various passes I've always wanted to ride, and then to the California coast north of San Francisco. Then I'd go up into Oregon, across to Idaho and Wyoming to see Yellowstone and the Tetons, On the way home it'd be Utah for some national park visits like Bryce Canyon, Arches, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, then back into Arizona through Monument Valley. If I had 2 months I'd do the east coast too. I just don't want to ride more than 300 miles a day 2 up. Gotta have time to stop and smell the roses, take pics, and visit friends and relatives. Nothing worse than being in a hurry on a trip like that.

I' ve been mulling this one over for the last 12 hours or so.....and I still haven't really decided who... Part of me says my dad....cool guy. Part of me says Magne from a-ha....I know he can ride, and he's another cool guy - and good to look at! Another bit hopes for a tall handsome bloke that likes bikes and falls madly in love with me before the end of the ride.....like that's gonna happen - but then we are talking fantasy!
The little childish bit of me says I already have my ideal riding buddy in Shawn the Sheep! He sits on my back, holds my things, listens to me when I say things and doesn't say anything back ..... and waves at cars when I pass them!
The ride - easy. East coast of Australia. Doing that next year......with Shawn.

I thought about lots and lots of people and came up with NOBODY. I would love to have a month to wander around the country all by myself. Since there are so many BA.com members around, I could have plenty of people to ride with if I wanted to, depending on where I was
Women and cats will do as they please. Men and dogs should just get used to that fact and relax

I'd pick my 15 year old son. But since he is 6' and 207lbs, he won't ride behind me anymore so the trip will have to wait until he gets his own bike...oh yeah and a drivers license. God Bless you Brummie. I bet your wife was a terrific lady.

I would pick my wife, but her health is tanked so she can't ride and that I miss more than anything as I used to love riding with her.
Her aside, someone who would put up with going fast in the turns and stopping often to talk to locals.
Dream ride? Tour from England to Amsterdam to Sweden and Russia to Italy then to Athens. It would take me a long time.

God, I want to see if he shows up on a Harley, lots of folks claim he rides one, and half the guys on them think they are.
My wife is allways on back, thats a given, i would take my friend Todd, he rides a rocket but hes ok.

So I take it you've never ridden with Dwight, because that describes riding with him to a T(NTTAWWT). In fact, you'd probably be lucky to keep up with him in the twisties. I know I can't and I like to think I'm a decent rider.
Actually I wouldn't mind riding with Dwight for a month. Sure have a lot of fun the couple of times I've visited him up in Prescott.

Cross country for a month long trip? Could only be one person. My best friend Harold. The president of the old farts cycle club of Western Pennsylvania. We work together, take bike trips together. I don't know anyone else who could tolerate me for that long except my wife.

Brummie,
Just for your info. About 5 years ago, I had my esophagus removed for the same reason, then they found out that they did not get it all. Had a 5% chance of survival. Heard about an experimental procedure at the MAYO clinic in Jacksonville, Florida here in the USA, called Photodynamic Therapy. It took 45 minutes and was simple (no cuting, just a laser tube down the throat) and got a 100% cure. That was about 4 years ago and the procedure is now approved in the USA. Thank God and modern medicine. You might want to check into that. --Tom
