I have a '03 BA and the part that the rear sprocket mounts to on the rear wheel doesn't seem right. That whole piece spins around an 1/8th of an inch while the wheel remains still. Is this normal, or does something need tightened?

That's your cush drive rubber at work there, 1/8" sounds fine. I replaced mine with 25276 miles on the clock, the original cush had 3/4" or so worth of slop.

You may need a new cush drive. That is a big rubber gasket like gizmo inside the rear hub that prevents clunking when you accellerate.
Look in the tech vault, there is a part number for the cush drive from the Thunderbird that fits and is said to be even betterer.

I was looking at mine recently and it occured to me.........why couldn't you just make your own out of rubber blocks? I thought i heard they were something like $100+,and all they are is rubber blocks shaped like a wedge. And i don't see any reason they need to be connected as they are. Probably just for the convenience of handling the part as one piece.

I'm sure you could just make your own. But the rubber would need similar elastic charastics and be the correct sizes, which you could cut yourself if you make them anyway.

Thanks for the quick responses. I was just curious. I noticed this play in the hub after I changed my primary sprocket (which was the best 20 bucks I've ever invested) and I was cleaning my chain to relube it, and I was able to move it back and forth, and thought perhaps I broke something.
