Thanks for your thought primero. Even though I did not know anyone personally affected, most Americans feel like we lost someone that day.

For what it's worth, I think most of us (outside the US), along with yourselves, felt we lost someone or something important that day.

I think it was ignorance rather than innocence we lost. Before 9/11 there was talk of "The End of History." As if, at the end of the cold war, important things were over. We in the US certainly acted that way, and we often still do. When celebrity babies and trials get around the clock coverage in an age when determined fanatics are out to destroy all of Western Civilization, there is a serious disconnect between reality and perception. When a significant percentage of the population under threat from Islamofacists is much more exercised over possible violations of the “rights†of terrorists than they are over the deaths of thousands perpetrated by those same terrorists, there is a severe lack of seriousness being demonstrated. When the leaders of the Islamofacists can openly say they plan to win by eroding America and the West’s will to win by continuing to kill our soldiers and civilians and then large numbers of our own “leaders†publicly demand we give them exactly what they want, it shows a short sightedness of epic proportions. September 11th was not the first attack in this war and it is certainly not the last, but it is an example of what is in store for all of Western Civilization if the threat is not recognized and countered.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Excellent point!!
It reminds me of a Sociology class I took in college. The professor asked a question to each person in the class. What's the one thing you couldn't live without. I was shocked at what some of the people in the class said. The answers were things like computers, hair dryers, vehicles, microwaves, VCR's. I kept thinking of how ridiculous they sounded. I was thinking of things like food, water, shelter. Most of the people were thinking of creature comforts or conviences. As Americans I think we've lost site of what's really important. We're so hung up on material things and money.
On 9/11 we should reflect back on how this changed our lives and what we as Americans can do to make America better. We should remember the heroes on flight 93, NYFD, Penatgon, and NYPD. We should remember lost friends, family members and all the innocent people in the twin towers. We should never forget who did this to our country and try and understand why.
God Bless America

Thismorning, I got in the car to head to work. One NY station was playing all acoustic, commercial free music. Some interesting "unplugged" versions of popular songs, some 9/11 themed songs. IT was great. I heard TWO stations play Ray Charles version of "Oh Beautiful" which was great. One played it so it ended at 10:29 and then observed a moment of silence for the first tower falling. I thought that was nice. then they faded in the intro to "With A Little Help From My Friends", the Joe Cocker version. It was awesome!! Chills. I love that song anyway, but it was perfect right then. Q104.3, the NYC classic rock station, does blocks of requests at lunch anyway, so today they did blocks of songs for people that reminded them of 9/11 with little intros from the people who requested them. It was really nice. Can you tell I spend a lot of time in my car? Some of it was hard to listen to, I really don't like it when I can visualize or imagine some of the circumstances that people faced that day, but it was good. As someone who finds a lot of inspiration and energy from music anyway, it was nice to have it with me on a day like today.

Too easy for this to inadvertently slide into a political thread. I am in no way taking it there. Lets just say I echo Ladisney's sentiment.

The sad part of it is it seems that all of the feelings we have now about what happened that day will just fade away until next year. Lets try to keep it fresh in our hearts all year long. The last thing we want is a repeat, and if we get too lacks that is what will happen.

Actually I wasn't, but I'm sure that was good too! I'm going to check that station out tomorrow.

One thing anybody can do is to support our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Being a vet, I'm a member of the American Legion and they do a lot to support the troops overseas with care packages and what not. Having been overseas during Desert Storm, I can tell you that just about anything from home is welcome, especially reading material.
Here's a list of organizations that help our troops.

It has been made clear, the goal to make all of America submit and convert to Islam, as well as the rest of the world. This was the goal from the beginning of Islam, and for those wish to fundementalists of this religion, it still is. Whereas, for centuries they have, of their own ineptitude, and of ( or should I say, born of ) their cultural/religious backwardness, they have fallen behind the world. In this decline of their civilization, they couldnt keep up and the military was one of those areas that fell behind fact ( in fact, since they really dont view the nation/state as the entity of choice, but recognize the caliphate ) they had no ability to project power and conquer. Now, in the lust for weapons they now see available to the and within their grasp, their lust to restore and expand is foremost in their minds. Being transnational now is an advantage, for to who(m) do you look to retaliate? And they want to be on the offence, we have to continue to grab the initiative and take it to them, for they will surely come to us if we dont. The 9-11 attacks fully demonstrated that.
Our Liberties We Prize and Our Rights We Will Maintain
If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and will never be.----Thomas Jefferson
