well was going to have a long weekend in the lakes with my brother, got my bike servised(6000mile) on wednesday, then on thursday rode to Walsall, set off friday got on the M6 n my bike went onto 1 pot!!, couldnt pull over as the hard shoulder was coned off, so limped it another 5 miles to the service station(40-45mph)luckily my brothers bike has hazards so he rode behind me,got there n stopped looked at the bike,it had got so hot that the chrome had burned off the full length of the exhaust. phoned the R.A.C,breakdown servise.he said it looked like the spark plugs hadnt been out in a while(so much for the full service?).he couldnt fix it, suspected bent valve??so had to have it recovered to york(suppling dealer),didnt get there till 8pm!!, had to leave the bike in a printers premises over night. went back the next day as they were lending me a bonnie, so i could meet up with everyone in the lakes(ulswater).ive had enuf of the bike now, two air boxes went bang, a new back wheel a new front brake disc n pads side stand, speedo cable loop holder, n a few bolts have fell out.not bad for a 6mth old bike.so am i expecting too much for wanting a replacement bike or a refund?.sitting in a service station for 3 hours makes me think not!!.

It may be time you start writing letters to Triumph. Thats a lot to go wrong with it in 6 months.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

Coned or not, I'd have pulled over.
Had the engine siezed, you'd have been in a world of pain coming off the bike on the motorway - limping or not.
I've fallen off mountain bikes and it hurts - falling off a motorbike (even at 40-50 mph) ... ouch!!
Might not have caused so much damage to the bike either - a few miles worth of limping is quite a few engine revolutions.
Oh yeah, what Saxtron says.
Personally, I'd start off with polite letters first then build up to the abusive ones when the polite ones are ignored.

My Bike broke down thursday started but would not run, sent to jack lilley via RAC pickup truck. Turned out to be faulty coil which cost £175 parts + labour, now the warranty run out two weeks ago so I'm waiting to hear if Triumph will refund all money & cover under warranty. I had the CDI + 1 coil replaced Feb this year under warranty no problem but was given no paperwork when work completed so cant prove which coil was replaced in Feb. If you keep bike make sure you have in writing work + parts fitted makes life easier if ever required.

Alan, That's terrible! I've never heard of such from our bikes. Is there a "lemon law" over there. That really is the worst service, performance I have heard about. Complain, and loudly...... Warren

I think it is time to say goodbye to it Alan, I would certainly be looking at a new bike courtesy of Triumph, and then what Adey said, if no joy Trading Standards, infact Trading Standards just to see what they say and then to the dealer... Good luck

The exact same thing happened to dill in New Hampshire. The problem turned out to be a loose coil connection with the two small wires plugging into it from the CDI box. This would cause the coil to misfire, then fire and burn unspent gas in the pipes. His one pipe was destroyed, blistered all the chrome off of it the same way. Check to see if these wires are loose.

hi guys thanx for your replies, ive had a look to see what my rights are re- replacement or refund, basically the sale of goods act(uk)say that any product sold has to do the job it was built for and i have the right to ask for a replacement bike, but may not get a full' refund as the bike has passed its 6mt date, however as there were problems befor this date, and ive already expressed concern over its roadworthynes, i have the right to argue the point!. when i 1st asked for a replacement they told me 'triumph' wouldnt do it,but reading the sale of goods act, it says its the responsibility of the supplying dealer 'not' the manufacturer to resolve my greavance!.ive wrote a letter , being as polite as poss,(cos they really have been good dealers).but there comes a time..... by the way adey, youre prob right, it would have been better to stop on the coned off hard shoulder, but if the breakdown services had turned up they would have blocked the inside lane off,and you can imajine the tailback of trafic that would have caused, friday afternoon on 1 of the busiest motorways.not to mention dangerous!.yes it was a risk but i knew the service area wasnt far away.and at the time i just wanted to park up some where safe.i suppose things could be worse,,i could still be in the tow truck, the bloke driving it was on a mission from hell, talk about tail gateing!!!,the few hairs i had that wernt grey are now!!!

Hey Alan Hopefully in a just world, you have a good case.
As you say, concerns were raised before the 6 month cut off date.
I hope this hasn't put you off the bike.
As with any bike / car, there's often a few bad 'uns.
Most guys run theirs into the ground with no problems.
Good luck on getting it sorted mate.

Make copies of all correspondence. If no results from the first letter, get a lawyer to write the letters, they do know the correct buttons to push. make sure the lawyer has experiencein this type of case, you dont wont one who is learning on the fly.

All warranty work should get entered into the Triumph system (not the dealers own) by using the VIN number, so you should be able to get a record of it even 6 months later.
