Bonneville America Forums Forums Technical Forums General Tech Front Wheel Bearing Seal Leaking...Anyone else?

Folk,
I just got back and notice the front wheel bearing seals are leaking. Taking it to the shop tomorrow.

Any one else having issues?

What's the indication? Is the front slinging grease on the spokes/rim?

I noticed a very small amount of grease around the spacer on the right side and another small amount behind the speedo drive unit when I disassembled this past winter. Wouldn't even call it a leak but there was a small amount there. When I pulled the front axle to remove the wheel I observed a lot of extra "assembly" grease on the axle. Maybe that is what's seeping out?

Well, on both sides of the hub I have a good grease trail that has already formed. The other thing is I notice a little
"grinding" on the rt. hand side when turning the wheel.

That got me thinking, a bad front bearing is not a good thing.

Took it to Brian at Biker's Edge (My Dealer). Will find out what's what tomorrow.

One thing I had a fork seal leak last summer and to be honest I don't know if fork oil can effect the bearing seal or not.

If this was a business jet and the OLEO (main gear shock absorber) leaked on to a seal I know it would skrew it up. What about our fork oil and the bearing seal?

Don't know man, I've blown more than a couple of fork seals and other than screwing up the brakes (fork oil pumping down to the rotor), never made a connection with the bearings. Matter of fact, can't recall having a wheel bearing fail on a motorcycle.
Never had oleo struts, helicopter skids were always '2 down and welded'.

I have a very small amount of goo around the front bearing on my bike...just enough for dirt to stick to.
