My wife came home from work today telling me about a woman she works with who didn't show up for work. Apparently, she had a pretty good excuse, since she is now in the Anderson County Detention Center facing pending murder charges. She shot a coworker (Not at work though, the 2 were neighbors) in the face for scratching her car on accident! WOW!!! I'm protective of my bike, but... Unfortunately, the girl she shot was 6 months pregnant, and died, but the baby is in the neonatal ICU right now after an emergency c-section! If the baby doesn't make it(hopefully it does), it will be double homicide. And to think she's been to our house before, yikes!!!! Me'thinks there is a little mental stability issue going on here...

This murder thing seems to be a spreading epidemic. My wife, who works in HR, had one of her workers in her office the over day trying to get the company to help him out. He had the day before killed his sisters boyfriend. Hit him over the head with a frying pan. Problem was, his sisters boyfriends mother was renting them the apprartment. So now he is homeless.

Yeah, you've got to really wonder about a person who can do that, especially when the victim is pregnant! Well, I would say she will get a minimum of life out of this! The girl she killed was just finishing up selling off her and her boyfriends stuff to move back home, talk about f'd up!

It's like Marge said in a simpsons episode....."lots of people shoot Apu......it's just a $100 fine now". Funny stuff but it's really a reflection of the times. When i was a kid a shooting was big news. Now here in L.A. at least it's about as common as a speeding ticket and taken about as seriously. American society is truly hitting an all time low in many ways and this is the result.

WOW!! I am continually amazed at what people will be driven to do. Especially when it comes to cars. Road rage, etc. I've seen video of a guy who was in a skermish with another car, they both pulled over, the one drive calmly got out of his car and retrieved his bow and arrow from the trunk and started shooting!! YIKES!! People people, insults are not "worth" boldily harm!!! So crazy what people think they are entitled to do as "retaliation" for something.

well benny about road rage.....in 15 yrs of riding various bikes in CT, I know there have been quiet a few times I wanted chase some cager down and slap the p....s out of him. Not to mention the female pedestrian that stepped out in front of me in downtown Manchester 2 yrs ago.hit the brake so hard the taxi that was tailgaiting me bumped my back tire just hard enough to kncok me down. Slid to a stop about 2 feet short of the woman. Who calmly kept walking accross the street to the bus stop. Not bothering to ask if I was ok or not.

I work inthe shootign gallery at work..I could blow your minds with the reason people tell me they were shot. The ones who are able to talk anyhow. Most rememberable one is a kid (was like 6 or 7) who shot his brother cause he did not take him to the park.. Sad I know, but whats worse is how did a 6 years old have acess to a gun? much less know how to use it? His brother ( 11 years old) did not make it inspite of all our efforts. He was a trooper. We worked him for 5 min loaded him inthe truck got back pulses enroute to the trauma center. Once there they infused 3 pints of blood (3/4 his blood volume) and got a stable B/P and rushed him to CT where they found the bullett in his chest went in and severly damaged both lungs, the one in the base of his skull had enterd just abouve his left eye and was seated in his right ear drum after causing massive brain trauma.. they removed the one from his chest, left the one in his head, he lasted 3 days in the ICU untill the infection overcame him...

Oh believe me I know what it is like to be mad! And nothing makes me madder (I've been saying that a lot lately) than people who are just totally oblivious to how their actions effect (affect?) others, which happens a LOT on the road. But I remind myself, yell all you want, but nobody got hurt, and nobody deserves to get hurt. Golden rule, two wrongs don't make a right, etc.

Premeditated murder should be easy to punish, if you so choose to end someone else's life, you should know full well that you will surrender your own. The blood of the victim should be avenged, and society should demand nothing less than to cleanse itself of those who do not value the rules of society, who decide to make themselves the exception, and demonstrate that they hold life in such low regard.

So Clara Harris thinks she deserves another trial - she is the one who ran over her husband, repeatedly, with her Mercedes while her 16 year old daughter was in the car with her - after catching him with his mistress.
I don't understand why we have to house and feed these people for years at taxpayer's expense when there is no question of guilt! This lady's own private detective videoed the whole thing!
Seems the "accident" defense was not a legal defense at the time, so she wants another shot at getting herself off!

yEAH, i pretty much remember seeing the same kind of stories on the nigthly news from towns like Manchester and Willimantic... But I don't expect that is any different from any other town anywhere in the country! But, I did find a really decent house today for a really decent price (yep, even IN Connecticut!), so, if you CT guys could maybe go and just camp on his front driveway and scare away potential buyers until my house sells, I'd be mighty appreciative! Maybe post a sign that says future clubhouse for Merts Maulers....

But...America: GOOD, popeye.

Benny's Ammunition Belts? Nah, doesn't have the same ring as Mauler Benny!! But, if it's like the last 2 nice houses I've seen, it'll be off the market in a week (it has an acre of land, is right near a reservoir and park, and is "only" $160,000!! I can see now, I'm going to have to be ready to leave work at a moments notice with cash in hand...

It's safer to shoot people with cameras! Which is why countries without guns but with lots of cameras are safer places to be.

There are as many countries that have high gun ownership and low crime rates as there are low gun ownership and high crime rate. Pick a statistic, any statistic. You can definitely prove whatever point you are trying to make with statistics!
" There are lies, damn lies and then statistics."
In case you NEED some statistics, here's the Bureau of Justice statistics page where they compare victim surveys versus police records between the US and England. Interesting if nothing else.
If guns were a factor in high crimes and homicides, Switzerland would have the highest crime rate in the world. Why doesn't it? The answer is that guns are inanimate objects. They do not cause crime, criminals do. The fact is that crimes are caused by human beings not inanimate objects. Did you know that automobiles are involved in far more fatalities than are guns, yet nobody argues that they should be banned. The reason is that people acknowledge that car accidents are caused by people not by cars.
Crime is a social phenomenon and is not determined by whether there are guns available to honest citizens or not. Most of the cause of high crime statistics in the US is basically due to extremely high crime rates in the poorer neighborhood where almost all cases do not involve "legally bought or registered firearms". Lack of legal gun ownership would have an insignificant impact on the matter. If you subtract the high crime rates from these areas from national statistics you will find that most of the crime rates in the US are comparable to that of European countries with tough gun laws. Gun control and/or the absence of firearms and has nothing to do with crime.

I would imagine most gun related crime in the US is with guns bought illegally in the first place, but that is my pure speculation.

I read something the other day about Scotland now being the most violent country in the Western world since the near total gun ban. If thugs and rapists know their victims won't be armed it emboldens them. Just the possibility a potential victim might be armed makes them think twice. At one time many British men went about armed and the police didn't have to. Now the law abiding population is disarmed and the police carry automatic weapons. Are the people safer?
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Not true, normal every day plod has to make do with CS gas. Most forces do have armed response vehicles which have assigned areas, but I think that a senior officer needs to give permission for them to take the weapons out of the vehicle.
The only other time you are likely to see armed uniformed officers is at airports, or outside Embassy's.

One of the regular passengers at work is a memeber of an armed unit for the Metropolitan Police force (London for those who don't know..) He is an armed escort for important people. He tells me Margaret Thatcher is losing it... but that's another matter. (Before someone else sparks up....some would say she never had it in the first place - I'm just too young to remember!)
Anyway. he says that if he fires one bullet not at the practice range, he's off normal work for a minimum of two days. He's got ream after ream of paperwork to go through and convince the seniors that it was justified.
He's never fired in anger. In some ways I'm glad. But people like him are needed these days. That's a bad sign.
I think he's a nutter. He makes me feel sane...that worries me. A mad man walks around our capital with a big automatic gun....and he's licenced to do it! Then I had him arrest a fare dodger. (The perks of him not paying for his travel is that I can get him to do legal things - like yell at people for not paying, smoking in the toilets...stuff they shouldn't be doing..) He's a scary bloke when he goes all official. Gun or no gun - I wouldn't cross him.
As far as coppers go the average carries a CS spray. I saw some in London on Saturday carrying a small handgun - but that was around Parliament, and matey above - elite....just don't let him know....

Hey Ham, it might be! There's another Blue/Silver floating around though (or was last year), so could be her/him/it! I mostly hang around Anderson though lately. Have seen a Red/Silver BA cruising on 85South out of Greenville a week or so ago too...
