wasnt sure where to post this so I put it here---i was wondering when to keep my fuel petcock turned in the off position, after each ride, only when sitting on a weekend without use , or only for extended times being parked???? my last bike had a fuel pump and I just left the fuel valve on all the time-thanks cliff

I shut mine off for extended parking but not everytime I get off the bike as the owners maual suggests. It works fine for me though I have left it on overnite and had no problems in doing so.

I'm really bad about remembering to turn mine off at night and never had a problem. It is good to turn it off if for no other reason that to make sure it is functioning so when you need reserve, you know you'll have it!

I turn mine off at night. I've got a bad habit of not flipping from reserve when I gas up. More than once I've still been on reserve when I put her up at night.

I turn it on and off every time. Theres no telling when one of your goofball friends will go turning it to the reserve position and 'Lil old you who never touches the thing, finds out the hard way. Pushhh pUUUssshhhh. Key on, fuel on; Key off, fuel off. Thats my moto.

I am the same way. A hold over from long ago, more or less a ritual. One thing I never do though is use the kill switch.
if life gives you lemons keep them because hey, free lemons.

On hot Summer days, I'll run the last 1000 feet or so with the fuel shut off to draw off the bowls.

I always shut off my fuel. If I don't I will occasionally walk in my garage to the site and smell of a small puddle of fuel under the bike. I need to spring for a pingle, but I'm too cheap.
Learning from my mistakes... again and again.

I recently had a big problem with the fuel shut off leaking major amounts of gas into the airbox. bunch of friends of mine and I trailered to sturgis (we left at 1am from Philly which is only part of the reason I left it on by accident.) and drove straight thru (29 hrs). when we got there, there was about a 1/4 gallon of gas in the air box. I had to remove the seat and soak it up with rags to get it started again. I know I made the mistake and i realize that the bouncing around on the trailer contributed to the issue but it did seem like large amount. Dont know if anyone had this type of issue before but its all the more reason not to leave the valve on when not riding!!
Risk surrounds everything worth having.

oh, you are supposed to turn that off huh :-) I turn it off when trailering for a long time or when not going to run it for several days.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

I turn the valve off when the bike is going to be not running for more than a few minutes. Thirty three or so years ago I bought a new H2 750 Kawasaki triple that had a vacumn operated fuel cut-off. It could be operated manually, but was automatic and worked great. The valve was normally closed, then opened when vacumn was present. Reserve worked as usual. Triumph should look into this.

I often prefer to leave mine off when starting out, just to test my reflexes
