ebay chain riveter tool

I realize it only rivets and doesn't cut or press on plates. But does anyone know of this riveter and have an opinion on it?

Hard to tell withoput holding one in my hands, but what the heck, it's cheap enough and the guy has tons of positive feedback. Give it a try.

When Jane got a new chain on her bike, we went to the Triumph/Honda dealer and they said, "It may take us a while to do beacuse we don't know how to use the riveter very well, it usually takes a couple hours to get them pretty close."
Out the door to the Yamaha shop, 15 minutes and $17 dollars later the chain was on and perfect. May want to consider just taking it somewhere and have them do it while you wait.
I just could not see spending the $100+ for the fancy tool. And I really like tools too, but with only one chain between two bikes, not worth it to me.

A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice. Pat

Well, i suppose i could check with the ducati dealer down the street that mounted my tires and see what they'd charge. But i have a feeling it's gonna be more than $17, and while bringing my tires in was a while you wait proposition, if you bring the bike itself in they have a 3 week wait. but i'll ask. If i could be sure this tool would work i'd much prefer doing it myself.

I know nobody likes to spend big bucks for something that they will rarely use, but this is one of those tools you don't want to scrimp on. If you're going to get one, get a good one, that presses apart and together. You still have to grind the rivets first to get the chain apart, but a tool is easier to use than any other method. I got mine from EK Chain - expensive, but it works well. Motion-Pro is probably the biggest seller.

If it will press the side plates on properly and rivet, its a good deal. I've always ground the pressed part of the rivet off with a dremal tool, and just popped the plate off when removeing it. They have tools that will press the rivet off, and another tool that will just press the plates together! Everyone has a special tool for something that really is not rocket science. If it will press the rivet, your as good as there.

thats what i was planning to do....dremel the rivets and use a vise grip to press the plate on. The only thing i can't do with regular tools is crimping the rivets.

I bought a breaker/riveter when I had to do mine... very nice tool. Check the write up I did in the tech vault.
