I just did a 1000 mile ride with 2 other bikes, H-D's. The America sounds a bit anemic compared to those bikes, although the America seemed quicker up the hills. I was wondering if it is time to get new silencers that sound just a bit throat-ier. I looked at Ebco, but the sound bite for the Thruxton pipes seems too loud. Does anyone have the OEM Speedmaster style pipes? Do they sound a bit throtier than the America slash cut pipes?
ARe there any other choices that don't sound TOO loud, I don't want to be obnoxious, but is a bit loouder than what I have on my '04 America?
thanks
Charlie

In a stock exhaust..
Removing 3 of the 4 baffles landed right about where you are talking. Removing the 4th gives it the deep sound and is a bit louder than I think you are looking for. Not obnoxious though.
Oh and welcome aboard.

I have the Triumph 'off road' silencer's and they have a nice sound to them. Not too loud but fits more with the bikes looks. They are about $450 installed by your dealer.

Mark: My bike is in Sullivan County, which is prime riding territory, come up here and join me.
Reido: Thanks. Now how does one remove the baffles?
Red:Hmmm, which part number is that from Triumph?

The off road silencers are in the Triumph accessory catalog. I had the carbs rejetted at the same time and the AI removed. The torque improvement was tremendous. Fuel mileage went up if anything.

Excellent, I usually keep mine out in Montclair, NJ. I try to bring it into the city with me for a week or 2 a month though.

Hey, Charlie. I put a set of Staintune pipes on my Speedmaster. Nicer sound and definitely not a noise blaster. I haven't pissed off my neigbors yet. Plus, with a single screw, you can remove their baffle to get even a little louder. Not the cheapest pipes...but very nice. I ordered mine through Brent's site. Check them out here.

Charlie, I have a set of the Triumph Off-Road shorty slash cuts if you are interested. I only used them for about 2000 miles and chaged to Specialty Spares. I paid $375 for them, but will let them go for $200. Email me at jmfdlf141@yahoo.com if you are interested and I will send you pictures of them on my 2004 America. Jim

OK, I removed one set of baffles, being the wuss I am. It does sound nicer, burbbles a bit. Funny thing is, it is burbbling more from the right pipe than the left one. It was not warmed up all the way, but I thought that was odd.
Hmmmmmm...
