If anybody was wondering what the Patriot Guard Riders are all about, this is a pretty good piece. My eyes teared up watching this. I rode the escort mission for this fallen sailor from O'hare airport out to western IL. (2-abreast formation in city traffic gets pretty intense.) Honor and Respect, Petty Officer Jerry Tharp I volunteered in Davenport, IA this weekend and worked to help keep a 24 hour vigil on QCFIST's healing field. I had the privelege of meeting some of PO1 Tharp's family there. Rest in Peace Sailor. FREEDOM ISN"T FREE!!!
Ride On!

Outstanding. Some of us PGR riders are going to Phoenix on Sept 10th for the annual 9/11 commemoration event. I continue to be so proud of the PGR. Its something that is so completely apolitical and NECESSARY.
I wish it were not so necessary.

Wow, That was really a moving clip. I can't believe that those dickheads would have the audacity to go to a family's private moment and protest. Have they no compassion at all? This would never happen in Australia. But if it ever did we would rise up the same as you guys have. My condolences go out to P.O. Tharps family.

Wow, Galesburg, IL, brings back a ton of memories! Good on ya for doing a great thing! Too bad there's even a need for it, but good that there are those who do it like you!

Those citizens that live in the ivory tower of political correctness within the citadel of civilisation would do well to remember those that stand on the walls to defend them from the barbarians without.

The biggest misunderstanding that Joe public has about the armed forces is they believe that these men and women volunteer to fight for our freedom.
The truth is, that they are volunteering to die if necessary, for our freedom.
To protest at a funeral of such a 'volunteer' is despicable and cowardly in the extreme, designed to hide their inadequacies and be able to hurt innocent people without a payback, skillfully concealed behind political idealism. (They wouldn't protest in a bar in Norfolk when the fleet's in would they?),
Any similarities there with extemists ????
It is also cheap, easy publicity, eagerly seized on by the media, who, in the UK at least, have been proved to have paid and orchestrated such protests.
Military personel are controlled by a government. If they act unilaterally, then it's Courts Martial for them. If the military carry out the will of the government of the day, then the protestors should target the government.
When the Taliban are knocking on their door, the first people the protestors will expect to protect them is the military.
Don't get me wrong, I supported the invasion of Iraq but was not prepared for the long run. I think we should pull our troops out as soon as possible. BUT WHILE THEY ARE THERE I'LL SUPPORT THEM.
If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.

Thanks again to the PGR. I joined up. I don't think we will have any protesters here. Our community really supports our troops in many ways.

I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who are willing to ignore what is right in order to further their cause. Fallen soldiers should be honored respectfully for their service. There may be appropriate places to protest, but they should never be near those who who have given the ultimate sacrifice fulfilling their duty to this country, or the families mourning their loss. It is shameful that a group like the Patriot Guard Riders has become necessary.
