Anyone wrapped their headers with heat wrap? I like the old style look, but have read lot's of different opinions on the application. I'm concerned that since they make the header retain heat, ergo higher exhaust temps which is good, the headers themselves won't dissipate the heat as normal which may affect the metal and cause early failure.

I was actually thinking of wrapping my headers as well. From what I've read, on bikes it's pretty much just a cosmetic thing. The exhaust system is too short for it to provide any performance gains. I havn't head of anybody that has had problems due to wrapping the headers.

Yeah, I figured the whole system is too open to worry much about heat retention, but never hurts to ask...thanks.

Wrapped my pipes 700 miles ago. No problems. I like the look and low maintenance (I don't have to clean off burnt boot or skin). You can view the exhaust wrap in my gallery.

This may be a stupid question, but do you leave the wrap on your pipes when you wash it?

Yeah, occasionally some of us do this thing with soap and water that makes the bike all clean.
