I found this on another website and got to try it today - works like a champ.
To remove the front axle spindle you need a 19mm allen wrench for the left side. 19mm is almost 3/4 inch exactly.
If you have a 5/8 inch sparkplug socket you can run an extension down thru it and use the end of it as your wrench. Works perfectly...

Been doing this since day 1, but for some reason mine was tight and barely fit. Had to tap it in and it would be tough to remove. So out comes the dremel and about 15 seconds of grinding on each of the 6 sides it now works perfect. Gotta love them thar dremels.

As many times as I have had my front wheel off, I have yet to have to hold the left side of the axle. Maybe that is because I don't loosen the pinch bolts till I break the axle free? Now that I have said something, Murphy will dictate holding the left side.

It was my first time removing the front wheel Saturday when I changed the fork oil and put Progressive springs in the forks. I didn't know exactly how it came apart and didn't have the 12 mm allen for the right side... So, I searched on here then on the 'net and found the socket trick.

Sunday I went to Autozone and got a 12 mm socket mounted allen wrench.
I am complete.....
