I get a lot of crap WITH the front fender. For the longest time I thought I was getting hit with some super hard bugs - Until one of those hard bugs hit and lodged behind my glasses - It was a small stone. Since then, I've been more aware of whats flying at my face. Little stones come my way quite often. Just me, but I wouldn't want to go fenderless.

Yes, fenderless is ok for looks but the risk of stuff hitting you and also chipping your tanks paint is way higher!
My America fender is massive and not that good looking but I'm keeping it for the same reason as pipedr....Safety.

I'd actually be more concerned with the rocks and stones hitting the oil cooler - those fins are pretty flimsy.
In 2004 I was on my way to meet my wife somewhere and decided to take a shortcut. Well, they had just installed pipe under the road and had filled the ditch in with fresh asphalt. As the ditch ran back and forth along the length of the road, there was no way to avoid riding on it most of the time. I could hear the asphalt rattling through the fender and then it would fly off the top of the front tire and hit me like a swarm of bees. When I finally got where I was going, my wife took one look and started laughing at me. I had little asphalt-covered stones stuck on my face, in my beard, on my helmet, everywhere, and the forks and wheels were a mess too. But the cooler and front of the engine and frame were relatively clean. Had to be the fender....
