You know when something is named something it's not just so the consumer thinks it's something that it isn't? Like.... A Sports Bar, ....that doesn't have the NFL Ticket or MLB or any Sports whatsoever. or A Custom Part, ....that you order from a cataloge. Will the brain washing end? I don't know, but I sure am glad to be on a Triumph.!. ..no point, just blahh blahh. Any others?

My uncle told me "Marriage is a fine institution to be committed to if you don't mind being committed to an institution." Not a pure oximoron, but allong those lines

I had an amicable divorce after 19 years of marriage. We settled the property over the kitchen table, I then took the settlement list to my attorney, and she wrote up the papers. I still correspond on friendly terms with my ex, and she just sent me a very nice B-day card. We never called each other bad names during the marriage, and we still don't. She's a beautiful soul and I wish her a long life and happiness.

A term much used by the news people that I find interesting is "shot to death". To me, that seems to imply that a highly skilled marksman with a good understanding of anatomy should be able to shoot a dead person to life.
Other abuses that annoy or amuse me: 'Cirrhosis (never could spell that) of the liver.' Since that C word means inflamed liver, what other organ would it involve? '5 AM in the morning.' Is there anyplace in the world where 5 AM is not in the morning? 'Tuna fish.' Is there any kind of tuna that is not a fish? Maybe a piano tuna? 'You know', especially when inserted after every fifth word. If I know, why are you telling me about it? The local radio and TV news people are developing the annoying habbit of inserting 'uh' where it doesn't belong. "The dog was running loose in the uhstreet when it was hit by the uhcar." "Cop talk" is really annoying to me. Don't they know that there are other past tense verbs besides 'did'? Why not say "I went around back to see if ol' Cletus was in his shed when I saw...", instead of "I did proceed in a southwesterly direction to the rear of the structure in search of the suspect and I did observe..."
Let's hope there's intelligent life somewhere in space 'cause it's buggar all down here. -- Monte Python

At least they use the correct tense. I hear a lot of news or history shows talking in the present tense about past events. "Emperor Maximus Falicus BRINGS peace to Rome" or some such thing.
