fella, i have a question. so, i have lowered my america - and she looks sinister. but now, on fairly moderate left turns, i am scraping the the kick stand. i also want to mention, this is not the stock kick stand. it is a shorter one. has anyone out there attempted to relocate the kick - you know, somewhere else on the frame?

Dumb question, but are you sure you're not grinding the muffler on that side?? Bruthah, if you're grinding a kickstand instead of the peg, maybe you're a tad too low..Still, can't imagine how the kickstand is grinding at all, it nestles right up on that frame rail

The kickstand rests against the underside of the frame.. So it's the first to hit... it's the lowest appendage.

I scrape my hero nubs on the pegs before my kickstand, but I'm not lowered...

yeah my stock kick stand 'deployment arm' or whatever you call it is nearly destroyed. it ground out flat and bent in half so i just cut half of it off. now i have quite the ankle sticker poking out the left side under the pipe. i'll have to address it again sometime but right now i'm not worried. it does affect your left turns though as you can't get as far over on the left as you can on the right. my right pipe has a big flat spot in it too, from on-ramps mostly.

Jethro... Have you ever been concerned of the kickstand drag throwing your front tire off your turn?

I guess I'd have to see it to understand, Maybe Benny is right, and it's a "lowered" thing. On my Speedmaster, it would be a catastrophic situation if the kickstand is grinding; the first to go would be the peg, then the pipe, I'm still baffled, but then again working 40 hrs in 4 days is not doing my mental processes any good right now.

I'll take a photo of the kick stand retracted to shed some light on this mystery.

i know what you're saying, the stand acting as a fulcrum, but no i haven't. i really haven't had it over far enough for it to be an issue. when i first lowered my bike (progressive rear shocks) i had it on too low a setting and i couldn't make it through a familiar section of road without it scraping badly and scaring the crap outta me. it actually pushed across the double yellow once. now i ride with it set up correctly and know where she'll scrape. it's also one of those safety things, getting used to her scraping so that when she does it doesn't throw you for a loop. i will say this though. last year i had a slow speed stall in gravel while turning right and the bike slid out from under me but didn't go down. she balanced on the right side muffler!! my pipes have worn to the point that under normal circumstances my boot heels usually scrape before anything else.

I too have my rear lowered using progressives, and they're currently on the lowest setting. Perhaps I will give 'em two clicks, and not ride my America, like I rode my Standard Bonnie.

You might want to drop a slightly longer spacer on top of the fork springs. Since the seat is nearer the rear wheel and the stand is farther forward, this will lift the kicker more than the seat. This also gives your bike a bit more of a chopper look. On the +- side, it will increase your effective rake angle a bit making the bike more stable at speed. This may be good, bad or indifferent depending on where and how you ride.

Hey, I occasionally scape the the kickstand on left turns but it's usually because the road has a crown to it I think.

I scrape on both sides, but I'm down 2" front and rear. I use the boot heel trick as well to keep off the pipes. I fixed this problem over the last 2 weeks, though. Added 2 teeth on the front sprocket of the Speedmaster and made it more docile for cruisin'. Bought a 2000 Speed Triple last Saturday for leanin'. Truely the best of both worlds.
