So I went to the dealer today to try and buy some tbs needles and 130 mains. The uppity mechanic/parts monkey told me he wouldnt sell them to me. "There is no reason to go above 120 main/48 pilot(possible 125 on a big bore) on a speedmaster regardless of upgrade".?? Said that 130 would put in too much gas and would kill the rings. And then said that I cannot rejet a carb myself, since they "are very complicated". I was a more than a little pissed. So are there any dealers were I can order OEM parts over the internet?

Its not the jets(I already ordered them), I have to get some parts to fix some damage when I laid the bike down, and I dont want to give a dealer a bunch of money after that. I think it was just a pain in the butt mechanic, still it was annoying. Oh they have the triumph custom painted tanks on special in anyone is looking for them 500 tank and fender, but dont ask for needles that dont go to your bike.

I just bought $1800 worth of parts from Palm Beach Triupmh to rebuild after the crash. They were freindly, fast, and shipped the parts for what it cost to ship 'em ( no bullshirt made up handling fees). I HIGHLY recamend them. Hope to start putting Bonnie back together this weekend. ModelMaker

Palm Beach Triumph and Cascade Moto Classics are probably the best two dealers on the planet (at least in the U.S. anyway) they are people that care about bikes and customer service before making a buck. There's just something about family owned and run business that way.

What kind of idiots work at that dealer? They did not want to sell you parts? Who cares what you are going to do with them, go elsewhare from now on. Once you get the parts installed, go back to the dealer and do some donuts in the parking lot, give them the one finger salute and ride away, never to be seen again. Post the dealer's name too so we know who NOT to do business with.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

The really sad thing is if this is Great Bay then they are one of the best service shops around...even the, now defunct Naults Triumph, sales team would take their rides to GreatBay for service rather than have their own guys work on them (for the tough stuff) I think a call to the service mgr is in order! possibly some e-mails with this a$$holes name mentioned....now where the heII do I go for warantee work (like I think I have a warped front rotor after 2500 miles, and the damm "pogo-ing"...)

This was great bay, which I have always liked. Dont know if it was a new mechanic or not. Basically seemed like you shouldnt work on your own bike, just bring it in and magically mechanical fairies will make it better, as long as your credit card will handle it. Bring in yours for warantee work, I'm just glad I didnt try to have the pipe replaced. Its obvious my mechanical ineptitude caused the pipe to catch on fire. I must have not used enough antiseize on the muffler bearings, or my heat core got clogged one of two.

There is probably a reason that they have him working the parts counter. My guess is to keep him away from cutomers bikes.

I just talked with SecondWind BMW (the New kids on the Block VIA the Naults demise) They are new to the Triumph game but in speaking with one of the tech's they seem amiable enough...as well as HUMBLE enough to know that they MAY not know all the answers and were willing to LISTEN to me regarding some of the Peformance mods made and why! I may ride over there tommorow and introduce myself in person and bring my baby for them to see (plus I got that front rotor issue and the pogo-ing and he said they just did a front rotor at about the same mileage under warantee)

Ah the listening part is the important one. I was talking to a triumph owner at a suzuki shop on Tuesday. He said good things about second wind, the only negative is its hard to get in and out of.

Okay, I'm in the minority here on the "intent" of what the guy said, but I agree that he took a high handed manner of saying it.
His telling you that the changing carb needles beyond a certain size was not necessary and why was actually (IMHO) a good thing, since this showed that he had your best interests at heart - if what he said was true and if what he said was honestly conveyed.
His telling you that a carb needle change was too complicated presumes you are inept at doing something like this regardless of your background. It ain't heart surgery or rocket science, after all!
A better tact would have been for him to say that "Changing the needles/jets to what you want may possibly cause damage to your engine and is not recommended by the factory. Because of this risk, our dealership prefers not to sell the larger jets over the counter or install them, since any damage as a result may make us partially liable. However, if you insist on wanting to re-jet to a larger size, there are numerous sources from which you can purchase what you are looking for and there are also websites which provide "how to" instructions for rejetting, which can be tricky and frustrating for some people if they haven't done it before. Is there anything else I can assist you with?"
If he had said it like that, would you still be PO'd?

I worked the auto parts game through college, and I know that some people dont know what they are talking about. But really the bottom line is help the customer, not drive them away. More people should have to work on commision. You know how fast dunkins would be if they only made a percentage of your cup of coffe. Now I know this couldnt work different customer saturations at different times of day etc. But it seems that people in the service industry are so divorced from the bottom line, there is no motavation to sell or help the customers. This is why the guy selling you the bike is so helpful he sees dollar signs. Or why the little mom and pop operations are helpful they need the money.

Except it puts him contact with customers, that doesn't seem to be working well either.

What a Dick, I'm surprised Triumph sells as many bikes as they do. I'm sure there are plenty of good dealers out there( mine not being one of them) but I here as many bad stories about our dealers as I here good ones. 50% customer satisfaction don't cut it in the business world. When will Triumph wake the F up and do something with the dealer network! Stepping down from the soap box, who's next! Mike

My local dealership has a bunch of decent guys working there, but I'm not real confident in their level of mechanical ability. Had 'em do some fairly easy stuff when I first got the bike. Pretty costly - $75 bucks an hour in general, $60 for a 'spring check-up', etc. I later corrected what they did with the knowledge I acquired from this site, and I'm by no means ready to call myself a mechanic. I'm fairly sure at this point I'm as good or better at working on my bike than they are. Not quite ready to tear into the engine or tranny but aside from that I'll keep doing my own maintenance.
