The KTM Super Duke 990 will be available stateside in February 2007, offered in black, titanium, and KTM orange color schemes; I think I'm in love.

OK, just did a search on this model. It's a typical Euro design (no surprise there!), in that the engine has a 4 inch bore and about a 2 7/16ths in stroke (101mm x 62.4mm) - way oversquare! That means one has to "rev the snot" out of it to get to its torque or horsepower peak.  Of course, this style engine appeals to the under-35 set....(my younger son will be 35 next month) Triumph Sprint ST, anyone?

Well, I do turn 29 in December, so I guess I qualify eh? 
That's ok though, I doubt I'll buying this bike in Feb of '07 or Feb of '08 for that matter, for the moment my mastercard has got me by the b@lls with all of my Speedmaster Engine Upgrades

I'd rather have the Ducati Hypermotard that's coming out next year. But who am I kiddin. The closest I'd come to buying a Ducati would be the GT1000.

Both sweet bikes. I like the Monsters too. There's a good article on the GT1000 in the MotorCyclist I just got.

I'll have to pick up that issue. Was talking to a Ducati Multistrada owner on my ride yesterday and he said they have the GT1000 now at the local dealer. I need to see if it's okay for 2up riding.

Looks similar in size to a bonnie, except with a Duc 1000cc motor

Benny and SalMaglie, I sat on a silver GT1000 this last tuesday at D&D in Pensacola, they also had a red one already mounting the Termignoni Pipes (GORGEOUS) I found the bike to be suprisingly tall, I'm 5'10 with about a 30" inseam and I had to tippy toe the bike, but thankfully it's fairly light. I pretty much like the entire air-cooled line of Ducatis, and I think the Hypermotard would be awesome, but I think just by looking at the pics that it'd be way too tall for me.

We saw that GT1000 at Big Twin Cylces in Boise. I think it is the only Ducati I would even think about owning.

Thanks for the report there Michael. I need to get down to Renaissance Motorcycles and see how it fits. I'm an inch or so taller than you and have a 31 or 32" inseam. The specs say it has a 32" seat height, which is pretty much standard for that class(a Yamaha FZ1 also has a 32" seat height, and a regular Bonneville is 30.5") Hmmm....I wonder if I could get a test ride? I'm still a year or two away from another bike purchase, but that hasn't stopped me from window shoppin'.

That Hypermotard is just about the best looking "dualie" I've ever seen. I'm usually not a big Triumph Tiger/BMW GS/et al fan, but THAT BABY could find a place in my garage REAL EASILY!

But sorry guys. The retro GT1000 is just too "blocky" and square(that tank looks like a bread-basket to me), and just too gangly-looking. I'm a little more partial to Ducati's new retro 1000 Sport(but of course, I'd have to change those bars from clip-ons to a superbike bars so my 54 year-old back wouldn't complain.

And those Sport Classics also have rearsets...abig minus for my poor knees. I stopped by the Ducati dealer today and they had 3 GT1000s, 2 grey and 1 red. I actually liked the look of the Grey/Graphite ones better....which is out of the norm for me because usually I'm a traditionalist when it comes to Ferraris and Ducatis: Red only! I couldn't quite flat foot it on the GT1000, but it didn't bother me that my heels were only about a half inch from touching the tarmac. They do have a demo bike I could ride, but they wanted serious buyers only to do that. I'm not ready with the funds yet, so I won't take a flyer on it. I did ask about valve adjustments. The salesman was fairly up front and honest when he told me they do a major service at 12,000 miles which includes cam belts changed, valves adjusted, oil change, plus just going over the bike with a fine tooth comb, and he said it'd cost $800-900. Oh well, I guess that's the price you pay for owning a Ducati. I really like the bike though. Saw this pic of a Sport Classic with a fairing on it over at the Delphi Bonnie forum. Looks very sharp, but expensive.
