You could count the number of white boys who can play blues like this on one hand.

Martin, I dig the Blues baby. This guy sounds like a young Charlie Musselwhite on vocals and a smoothed up Stevie Ray on guitar.
Nice.

I always like listening to some Blues artist I've never heard. I guess Mark Kerr's a talented enough musician, but his style is a little too polished for my personal tates. I like my Blues a little more raw than that, but you did bring up a challenge I'd like to try.

If you don't just limit this to those that are still alive, off the top of my head here's what I have:

SRV
Johnny Winter
Roy Buchanan
Duane Allman
Ry Cooder
Eric Clapton
Roy Rogers
Tommy Castro

Whether they're better than Mark Kerr, who's to say? It's just my own little list. And it's not like I limit myself to "white guys only". I still throw in an Albert King CD, or one by Muddy Waters, or BB King, or some of the other all-time greats. But it is an intersting propostion you put out there, and I couldn't pass it up.

Try Howard and the White Boys. Rocco is simply a treat to listen to play the Strat, and new kid on the Gibson is quite a nice addition. The second cd, Guess Whos Coming to Dinner, is my fav. I see them quite regularly here in the Chicagoland area, but they travel extensively, both around the USA and some in Europe. You can look them up at www.howardandthewhiteboys.net

Like I expect most of us are, I'm allergic to most broadcast radio content. (Thank God for satellite radio!) With all the music out there, the same safe 300 songs get old. And so I present two alternatives, both of the streaming type.

http://www.neworleansradio.com/stations.asp?stationid=noradioblues

http://www.wkze.com/equissentials.html

The New Orleans station leans toward blues & funk for most of the day, and WKZE is somewhat like a college radio station with content chosen by 40 somethings. Both of their content varies widely throughout the day, so give them a chance at another time if the currently playing musical genres don't meet your liking.

Enjoy!

The New Orleans channel is also available for play by using the freeware "Internet Boombox" http://www.jajsoft.com/products.html .

Link to freeware MP3 player Winamp, required for some streaming content - http://www.winamp.com/player/

Winamp skin for those from the analog era http://www.winamp.com/skins/details.php?id=81567

To the best of my recollection, all the freeware software above is spyware free. Internet Boombox has an option to install some casino thing, but it is easily sidestepped during installation.

And from the info of little relevance department - my neice's boyfriend is related to Anders Osborne. http://www.andersosborne.com/ She spent a couple weeks hanging around the pre-Katrina New Orleans music and club scene with Osborne as a tour guide. I'm maybe just a LITTLE jealous. But she's a great kid, and deserves good things to come her way.

Not too bad, but I still like Luther Allison's "Low Down Dirty" better than Kerr's. Sure miss Luther.
Only blues act I've caught this summer was Robert Cray at a Jazz festival in PA. Awesome, he's one of my blues heroes.

I was cranking Muddy Waters "Hard Again" (featuring Johnny Winter among others) in the car last week.

I like the one tune I listened to so far from the first link. I like blues with a funky edge to it like that. Yeah it's polished, but it's good! Go see Buddy Guy while he's still alive. Still rockin, still puts on a great show!

Howard and the White Boys are considered the "house band" for Buddy Guy's Legends. He oftentimes will join them onstage.

I saw Buddy back in 1988, what a treat! That was the year after I saw SRV as the headline act and the Allman Brothers preceded him.

Anyone who lives in the L.A. area, go to the "First Cabin" on huntington drive in Arcadia on friday or saturday nite. If you can walk out of there after seeing Pat O'Brian and honestly say you've seen better, i'll go see whoever it is you call better and eat the bastage's shorts right there on stage i've been playing blues and classic rock in a bar band for 2 decades and i can tell you that i feel like a baby when i see this guy. SRV was a major idol for me, but Pat overall puts him away IMO. he also plays harmonica like that guy in blues traveler, WHILE playing guitar. (harmonica holder round the neck) But it's a small bar thats well past capacity every nite he plays, so get there early unless you wann be squished against a wall. trust me on this one, i've taken a lot of people to see this guy and every one of em had thier jaws on the floor by the 2nd set or so. He's not technically amazing on the guitar, he's musically amazing. Not SRV in that respect, but musically he's untouchable by any guitar player i've ever seen in any style with maybe a hadfull of exceptions.

Hard to imagine anyone better than SRV. I have every CD he ever produced on my MP3. Don't go a day w/out listening to SRV.

Like all that were mentioned in Poo-Bah's reply. Saw the Allman Brothers at PSU in State College, PA back in the early 70's when Duane was still alive. It was an amazing concert. They had to tell them to stop or they would have played all night. Have seen them twice since then and they are still good, but not quite where they were when Duane and Berry were still alive. Better be caeful, I am showing my age.

Buddy Guy was booked at the "Festival at Sandpoint" last year. It was a show worth seeing, seeing as how the Chicago clubs are a long way from my street address. Robert Cray, BB King, Los Lobos and Delbert McClinton have appeared in prior years as well. Etta James, Susan Tedeschi and Ruth something are playing a "Women of the Blues" night there August 12th. Sadly, I have a close friend's retirement I need to attend the same evening. Love the Blues, really love live Blues .

I find 'Blues' is one of the musical areas that no matter who you listen to and who you think is briliant, someone else will always introduce you to an artist that you've never heard of who will blow you away.

I guess my blues knowledge would be concidered mainstream, but for what its worth my favorites would be

Gary Moore, Jeff Healey, Kenny Wayne Sheppard, Johnny Lang. Some rather more unknowns, Bernie Marsden, Snowey White, Mickey Moody.

Someone i came across in BB Kings Blues Club in Memphis a few years ago. Chris Cain, absolutely brilliant. I have since brought or borrowed/copied everything i could find on this guy. Here is his web page

Wandering around Borders Books in NJ last week, I happened on a book in the bargain bin called "Road House Blues - Stevie Ray Vaughn and Texas R&B" by Hugh Gregory. Picked it up for a cool $6. Excellent read.

Buddy Guy definitely on my "must see" list. "Feels Like Rain" probably my favorite Buddy tune.

I heard a few of this guys tunes on the XM "Bluesville" channel today. Straight up Texas Blues. Pretty good stuff. Looks like he is just playing in the TX/ARK area.
