Friday I left to help out a friend that was broke down at Diamond Lake campground in Oregon. After a 380 miles and 9.5 hours I arrived at the campground they were staying at. When I was looking for them I saw what I had thought was a couple of BSA’s, but to my surprise it was not: they where Velocette’s! We took some pictures and talked with the old timers that were riding them for a while. One of them had come down from Canada, the other from Alaska. There was a big meet happening Sunday, but I could not stay that long. I needed to get my friends bike (yeah a Harley Sportster) back home and both of us had be back for work. I will post the pic’s when they get them developed and scanned. What nice bikes and riders. They said there would be between 60-100 bikes there by Sunday (today) and coming from all over Canada and the States. I understood it that all the way from Eastern Canada and the Eastern US. They meet once a year at many different locations in the US and Canada. Made the trip more than worth while and left me with a smile that is still lasting.

My first motorcycle was a Velocette. Great bikes once you learn how to start them.

That is pretty much just what both of them said too! But they also said there is someone making aftermarket parts for them and has an electrict starter, but neither one of these bikes had one. Still waiting for my buddy to get the film developed and scan in the pic's.

Probably the same group as this one. I ran across that post on Adventure Rider a year ago when it was first posted.

The trick to starting a Velo is to tickle the carb just right, (takes practice) pull in the compression release and kick the engine over a couple turns t prime the cylinder, ending at the top of a compression stroke. (That's important!) Then you let go of the compression release turn on the switch and kick as hard ad you can. If you did it right, the flywheel will pick up enough energy to help you get it through the next compression stroke. The engine will usuall fire on the first try and away you go, literally if you forgot to retard the timing on the older ones.
