Aren't they pretty? These gears were just finished yesterday, I should have them today. They were done by a really awesome machine shop in Maryland called Teo Sys. http://www.teosys.com/I had to send them brand new original gears to pattern off of, but they went ahead and drafted a full set of drawings to support the fabrication of the bronze gears. The good news regarding this, is that for anyone that would like to have metallic gears made for their rides, most of the Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) costs have been absorbed by me, because I had the initial sets made up. At some point in the very near future, I will purchase the drawings from Teo Sys, and file away for longevity. If anyone has any questions or interest regarding these, feel free to PM me, or call them directly, I dealt with a very nice lady named Dana Church. She made a comment that the gears meshing sound like little bells tinkling! I'll take that sound to be the sound of peace of mind

$385 and change. I knew I was going to be biting a big bullet, but I didn't care, since I was pretty much determined that Nylon Oil Pump gears would not bite me in the fatazz again.

Ow! But, good insurance since they needed replacing. If I see mine are even close, I'll do the same. I think the ringing bells sound is really the cash register ringing for them.

True, but they did warn me via the price quote that the price would be rather high, because of them having to fabricate from scratch, and also that we were talking single-digit quantities. Since I've already paid for most of the leg-work, they really should be cheaper for other people.

Does that figure include the NRE? or was that extra?
They are pretty but in service no one will see them but you will have piece of mind!

No, the $385 and change was everything, lock, stock, and barrel. They FedEx Overnighted the gears to me, so I should have them this afternoon.
Yeah, the visibility is nothing I care about, just knowing that I have honest-to-goodness metallic gears installed is worth it.

So due to the due diligence you have imparted to this issue the rest of us could conceivably at some point get these for probably somewhat less than 3 c notes.

That's what I hope for, that someone else can benefit off my initial cost. I plan on purchasing the drawings sometime soon, and after talking back and forth with their rep, they told me that they have no problems with me making copies of the drawings to facilitate other riders getting gears made, either through Teo Sys, or with other machine shops. I'd recommend that anyone that wants new gears made go through Teo Sys, simply because they've already made the tool to fabricate the gears, as well as the fixture that they used to test the gear mesh, but that's my $0.02 worth.
Well the odyssey will hopefully be over shortly, Falicon Crank services are still working on my crank and rods, but the end is in sight!

Initially, I did consider steel, simply because it was magnetic, and any particles or shavings that might come off the gears would be picked up by my magnetic drain plug. I chose bronze, simply because of recommendations made to me, one of them being my Best Friend's Dad; the Dad is a long time ducati rider, and I have a great amount of respect for his technical opinions, he recommended either brass or bronze for the gears. Also PapaDean here on this forum recommended bronze in my 'Failed Oil Pump' thread. And also, when I read a review about the new Buell Ulysses, they made specific mention of using a bronze oil pump gear as a method of ensuring greater engine reliability for that bike's ability to go off-road. So to answer your question, I initially thought of steel, but decided on bronze, based on those three inputs.

Sounds like the folks from the old redneck riveria are pretty smart folk. Great looking part, If I ever need to replace mine I know what to do and where to go... congratulations from a north florida redneck currently exiled in occupied northern virginia.

Nothing prettier than custom machined parts! Heck, with those gears (and a Wiseco big bore kit) a guy could run that old 70 wt Harley engine oil.....
