Soren,

I understand that concept. But if we move further west to accomodate the west coast then we make things more difficult for the east coast. Near the middle is the most fair approach I beleive. Lebanon, KS is the geographic middle of the US. I don't know about you but I'm thinking they have probably longer, straighter, flatter roads than here in Illinois. Never thought I'd say that. I like Colorado and all the parts I have seen of it have been beuatiful. But then, how many folks from NH or VT could be expected for that trip. Just my couple cents worth.

Oh yeah, Colorado is much further for the boys across the big pond as well.

I spent a summer in Kansas right after high school. I commented to an old cowboy I worked with that the land was really flat. He said, "Yup, you kin see fur three days an' you can't see a thing." One memory I have of Kansas is that you can look down those straight roads and see the next town coming at you from 20 miles away.

I vote for somewhere in the Rockies. There are tons of great roads and places to explore. The air is dry and the nights cool down. I hear that now they even have other beer besides Coors.

Anyway, you Easterners need to get out more.

Is a nearby Triumph dealer a prerequisite?

Been to Sturgis twice. Rode through Kansas and all I saw was corn and soybeans.
Colorado is almost unsurpassed for roads. The highest paved road in the US is in the Rocky Mountains National Park just north of Denver. Colorado would be a great trip.
Although a benefit of Mt Rushmore is its proximity to Sturgis and the locals are ready to handle bikes. Badlands and Black Hills are great rides and should be experienced. Sooo, I am in in early June and would vote for South Dakota or Colorado. They are both great places with great roads and plenty to do...PS gambling is legal in SD.

The Black hills is a great area for a rally. An unending supply of two lane twisties through scenic pine country.

Spearfish Canyon is a treat. The roads in and around Custer State Park are a great ride. There is more in the area than can be seen in a few days. A short shot out east encompasses the South Dakota "Badlands" ....Across the Wyoming border you have "Devils Tower"

"Bear Butte" state park is a stones throw from Sturgis.

Mt Rushmore is of course the thing to see if you have never been there. An abundance of small lakes throughout the hills and the region.

Usually a fair number of bikes in the greater Black Hills/Rapid City area all summer other than the August rally.

During the August YEARLY rally it is a virtual invasion. I-90 between Rapid and Sturgis appears to have battalions of Harleys on the move.

And I'd get free lodging regardless.

You are so right on all the above about South Dakota. I remember being on a twisty road heading to an area that "Dances with Wolves" was filmed and I noticed a stream running along the hill road. I stopped and took off my boots and waded in one of the clearest streams I have ever seen. I seriously thought about buying property and moving out there. However, they have nasty winters and reason (wife) got to me

You know what? The more I read here, the more I don't see this happening. Everywhere proposed is 2000 miles for a lot of folks on the right coast. Anywhere closer and it's 2000 miles for the left coasters.

That's a minimum of 4 days of hard riding just to get there. 3-4 days there, and 4 days to get home!

So now we are talking about 12-16+ days, right? I don't know about youse guys but I cannot afford to take off two weeks or more for this, a week for the GA Rally and probably 9-10 days for the NorEaster next year.

It's a great thought and if it can be done, I'd love to be there.....

Phil, what's the matter, you afraid your trailer wouldn't make it there? :-) You could drive from your vacation property and cut the distance. I will wait by my computer to see how you did.... ride safe...Gordon

Phil,

Now you know why you don't see me at the Georgia Rally, because it's about 2,000 plus miles from me to Dahlonega. Best thing would be to...I hate to say it....buddy up and trailer the bikes taking turns driving. That way it'd only take 1 or 2 days of travel time to get there.

Jeez, I trailer the one time because of the wife and you'd think I owned an HD or something!

Buddy trailering would work but somehow I don't see moe or chy trailering anywhere. If I was going, I know it would be without Janet, so I would NOT be trailering....

yup. Its one thing to spend a long day driving 7 to 8 or 9 hundred miles and a horse of a different color to do so on a bike.

When I drive to Rapid City , South Dakota from here I usually do it two days if I want to make good time. leave at zero dark thirty in the morning and run hard sometimes all the way to Raton Pass on the border of Northern New Mexico and Colorado and then finish the trip through Colorado and the Southeastern corner of Wyoming the next. Its about 1400 miles give or take. To comfortably do that on a bike means three days at around 500 miles per day. Doable for sure but a sure saddle sore azz at the end of the day.

Going east to Georgia...entails a lot of riding and time.
