Hi, I've fitted a 17 inch Memphis Shades Fats and Lowers and am getting head buffetting at speeds over 60 MPH. I'm considering buying a Laminar Lip but before I shell out $75 plus $50 shipping and the inevitable import duty I was wondering if anyone here has tried a lip. Also does anyone know of a UK supplier. Many thanks Sid

I've not tired one on the BA but I have used the Laminar Lip on another bike. It worked well and I would recommend the product in general. However, I'm not as confident about the value on our bikes due to the steep angle of the shield. The lip seems to be most effective on sport bikes or sport touring bikes with small shields/fairings that angle sharply back toward the rider.

I use the slipstreamer SS32 and Corbin setup and Memphis lowers and at 100mph on the motorway have no trouble from the buffeting wind but side wind is another matter. The only way to get shut of that is go out in the cage - or maybe slow down a little

Hi,
I've riden along and tried to feel the wind with my fingers. I have lowers fitted and there is very little comming up from around the tank. The main problem seems to be turbulent air from the top of the screen. If I relax my fingers and hold them just above the top of the shield they bobble about in the wind.
My understanding of the laminar lip is that it accelerates the air in the slot. As this comes out of the top of the slot it is going faster and smother than the air that is currently making my fingers bobble. So it forces that air a bit higher and hope fully over the top of my head. I think I can also fit the lip so it makes the screen an inch or so higher which may just be enough anyway.
I think I'll give one a go and hope the wife doesn't look too closely at my credit card bill
Best wishes
Sid

Hi Ray,
I like your set up but decided to go for more of a traditional cruiser style shield. Do you look through your screen or over it?
Best wishes
Sid
PS I have to go down to Dorset on Easter Monday, I have a pre trial review for an alleged speeding offence on the morning of the 29th. I think that they thought that by forcing me to attend and do a 700 mile round trip I might change my mind and plead guilty and pay up the 60 pounds. However I'm going to fight the robbing B's all the way.

Hi,
My Laminar Lip arrived and I've fitted it. I've set it so that the top is around an inch and a half higher than my W'shield and I can still just see over the shield. With a little tweaking of the angle MS Fats I have been able to have a set up which reduces buffetting to almost non-existant. I can clearly hear the engine now and have a much more comfortable ride.
I'll try and post some pictures next week. It does not look as good as the straight screen but such an improvement is, in my opinion, worth it.
Best wishes

Hi Phil, When I first put my MS 19" Fats on, in was almost inline with my forks. Crazy head buffeting! Then I let the Suzuki Marauder mounting hardware slam into my tank (made me nauseated). I adjusted it to prevent a recurrence and noticed my windscreen was nearly vertical. I rode it like that and the buffeting disappeared, wind noise died down and could hear engine a lot better. However, at times I felt like I was pushing a barn door down the road. I adjusted some more, and found a happy medium. Now my only complaint is my little helmet visor flicks and rattles a bit with occasional light buffeting, but I think lowers would stop that since it is coming from below. I did swap for a few days with a friend who has a 17" MS Slim - I really liked it better. Ride safe, Dennis
