Triumph's shop manual says if you replace the suspension, you need to put on new bolts. Is this true?

Probably wouldn't hurt - those bolts take all the force of every bump. How much're some new bolts gonna cost, versus the cost of replacing the bike if one breaks?

I've had my Progressive on for over three years with no problems at all. I have taken them on/off several times as well.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

One reason I would disagree with it is because that basically says that if you never replace your shocks, you don't need to replace the bolts, but they are still taking just as much punishment.... They seem like the kind of thing you would need to replace at a given time or milage interval if at all. Not based on when you remove them.

It might be that it is setup so that the bolts have an interferance fit. If that is so, reused bolts won't be quite as secure. A bit of threadlocker will do for this.
Another possibility is that the bolts are designed to stretch some amount when torqued. In this case, they are one use only because they don't go all the way back when you undo them.

Both very good points... either way, what's 4 bolts going to cost compared to your safety? Especially if you're spending the bucks on things like progressive setups.

I see this often with truck suspensions. For instance, U-bolts to secure leaf springs are scrapped after one use.
