Okay, I know this is probably posted in the wrong spot, so powers that be, feel free to correct this.... Anyhow, I need to buy a new front tire for the trip to the noreast rally. So for the first time in three years, I actually looked at something other than the PSI rating. Is there any particular reason the front and rear Metzelers are different styles... the front is a lazertec and the rear is a ME 880... both of which have corresponding matches for front and rear. Shouldn't I match up the front to the rear? And of course yesterday when I am pondering this, all the dealerships in Ga. are closed. Ain't that always the case, its like you only really crave Chic-Fil-A on sundays when they are closed.... Anyhow, help a brother out with my dilema cause I'm getting older and need all the help I can get.... ride safe.... Gordon

The lasertec is a direct replacement for the ME33 Laser T, which is the original Speedmaster Fitment. Same tread pattern, just a modified compound. I've had the lasertec on for about 4000 miles and have nothing but good things to say about it. I don't know why Triumph recommended the ME33 over a front ME880, but the combo works so my two cents worth is to stay with it.

Dang, you ARE getting old. Happy birthday, you old fart! More important than tires, what kind of oil should I run?

So in talking with the dealers ( Coweta and Atlanta Triumph ), the only thing they can come up with is that because of the sizing of the wheels, there is not a correct matching in either particular style (Marathon or Lazer). Hence the "mismatch". I have no complaints about the set up... just thought it was weird.... go figure... Gordon

I would just about bet that is the only reason. I also have the Laser Tech replacement and I am pleased to this point.

Go with it Bubba! They're awesome tires, I've got over 25000 miles using the same set-up of metzeler tires, and I haven't had one complaint.

I didn't know anybody craved Chic-Fil-A! Wow, That's kinda like craving White Castles.... Anyway, no relevant comments here except to wish you a happy Bday.

I'm not sure I would have survived my senior year at the Academy if it wasn't for a certain White Castle in Nassau County on LI!

They are called Krystal's 'round these here parts, with the slogan "when you gotta have a Krystal... you gotta have a Krystal!!" They taste good when your drinking, but then become lead bombs in the stomach and even worse later.... ride safe... Gordon

Oh yes, I'm well familiar with Krystal's! There's one in Pascagoula about 15 minutes from where I'm sitting right now. I prefer the White Castles though, they're a bit greasier, and they come with ketchup instead of mustard; can't stand mustard.

Happy B'day Gordon!
I've been running an 880 for some time now. The size is a 110/90 which is a slightly taller tire than the stock 33 Laser. Fits a bit tight under the fender, but hasn't rubbed on anything in over 24,000 miles.

If it isn't broke, don't fix it.
Mismatch or not or the tread patterns, that combo ROCKS!
I like them both, and would hate to think I would ever have to try something different. The new Lazertec is the same as the ME33 as far as I can tell - maybe a different compound, but same proven tread design. As long as it is an improvement....time will tell. I just know that I like them both so well in the rain I WANT to go riding every time the road gets wet!
