I bought the Kuryakyn switchblades just before the GA Rally. Nice idea. Really a good solution to not putting floor boards on the bike. Just don't think that would look good on my bike. I was having slight rotation problems with them but already saw the solution to that on this board. Anyhow, I'm out on a long ride. Looking for a comfortable leg position. Go to kick out the heel rest, go to kick out the the left heel rest and just one more time before I look down. Yep, dang heel rest is missing. I know it was on at the last gas stop because I had to kick it in as I pulled into the station.

Bought 'em on ebay so I wrote the merchant. He gave a contact at Kuryakyn. I called today and this guy wasn't in, so I just asked for customer disservice. I spoke with a guy named Rob. He made it sound like if I couldn't get satisfaction through the e-merchant than I would have to pay for a new peg. I was getting a bit on the angry side when I got off the phone with him. C'mon, these things aren't even 3 months old and your going to make me pay to replace YOUR defective product. Anyhow, I let the e-merchant know about it and he wrote Kuryakyn an email on my behalf. At least this guy is trying. I'll let ya' know how it goes. If I don't get some reasonable satisfaction from Kuryakyn (i.e. a replacement peg) those POS pegs are coming off the bike and I will get my shiny bits elsewhere.

That sucks dude!! I'm gonna go check mine! You think it was loose hardware and it wiggled off? Or did something actually break?

Nope, it was definitely just loosened hardware. The rest of the peg is still in good shape. Never really looked at it. Just put 'em on and figured good to go. Guess they should be looked over every now and again as I normally do the rest of the bike. I would recommend checking them. Maybe take the hardware off and loctite it. If I do get a new peg from them that will be the first thing I do when I get them back on the bike. If I don't get e new peg from them I will hold onto the right peg just incase anybody around here needs one. If that is the case I will definitely start thinking of doing highway pegs the way I would like to see them.

I check mine all the time. I had them loosen up and I was lucky to find the loose heel rest screws. I used locktite on the heel rest screws. It's a bummer that happened to you but I still think it's a great product.

Will Kuryakyn sell you the parts?

Yeah, you gotta check em now and then. They have a decieving number of somewhat hidden screws holding them together, and mine have come loose. Luckily not to the point anything fell off. But they do need to be tightenen occasionally i suppose. I just tightened mine real good in hopes it won't happen again. Like anything on a bike they can come loose and need occasional checking. Problem here is that the manufacturer probably didn't tighten them enough on the assembly line. They should replace it. After all, whats it cost them? But you know how that goes. they may well not do so. Smaller manufacturers like them are often tightwads even at the expense of losing a customer.

Smaller manufacturer? Huh? Are we talking about Kuryakyn here?

airguy, I hate to be the dissenting voice here but how does loosened hardware equate to a defective product? Shouldn't that have been your responsibility to ensure everything was fastened properly and loctited? Not giving you any crap and I hope you get this resolved but come on.....

Yep, bottom line, you're right, I should have checked.

However, if I were to manufacture a product that were to be installed on a vibrating machine I believe I would do what I could to minimize loosening. Imagine if we took that attitude if attention weren't paid to our fork clamps or main bearing caps or numerous other safety and reliability items. It is a simple matter of finer threads or loctite or both or safety wire or cotter pins or... ad nauseum. That is how it is a defective product.

I think the switchblades are a fantastic idea. I just think they could have done more to make a product that will hold together on a vibrating machine. Don't even want to throw in the rotation of the pegs with the heel support kicked out. Might have knurled that connection point or something.

These things may have increased the price of the pegs a bit. They are already a great idea. If they required less diligence to maintain them in satisfactory condition, they would be a better product.

You're right, I don't know how these things might be considered defective.

Considering I'm planning on getting those switchblades, you can be damn sure i'll be loctiting those bolts!

(Contrary to popular belief, I do try to learn from the mistakes of others. )

I'm not going to say anything. Yesterday my rear brake pedal fell off the bike as I was slowing for a stop. The nut/bracket loosened and the pedal was hanging. Luckily the nut was still in the pedal so repairs took seconds and cost nothing. I've loctited lots of other things, I guess that's next.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Did you get the triumph adaptors?

It's pretty simple. There is a little C clip holding the pin and spring in that the peg rotats on. Just pop that out and pull the pin. Then swap the other pegs in, making sure the spring goes back in the same way and you're good.

Yes I did get the triumph adaptors. Brought them from Britsh Customs.

Should I put the adapters on first and then screw in the pegs?

I lost a Triumph chrome bolt cover off of the left rear while in Georgia. It was loctited. Guess I was just hitting the twisties that hard!

Good luck with the pegs.

Got the new pegs on Friday. Kind of convenient for the Ohio Rally. Excellent!
