The latest issue of "Cruising Rider" has a review of Boss Hoss. Not being all that informed on this behemoth I did find the article interesting to say the least.

I cant imagine a purist really wanting one of these. Just too freaking big and bulky and odd looking to my eye. I cant imagine it being any fun at all in an atmosphere other than as a "Saturday Night" boulevard cruiser. Big Azz motor, big AZZ rear tires. Gotta be a bear to handle at slow speeds.

And of course the automatic transmission? Please. You have to take extra care to hold the front brake when shifting down one click to "drive".....

I guesss there is a market out there for these things however small. It just would not include me even if I had 40K at a min just aching to burn a hole in my pants pocket.

There have been a few of them at the local bike nights. I don't think they get out at any other time.

I havent ever seriously considered one of those myself, but I could see Tim 'the toolman' Taylor on one grunting "More power!"

I could only see them making any sense at all as a trike.

They make them as trikes as well I guess. Even more money.

Try a U-turn at a light with one of those two wheeled jobs. I'd be a nervous Nellie for sure.

Yeah I've seen the trike. At least you can tow a trailer

I saw a group demo ride head out at Americade a couple years ago. They all looked nervous...

I'll have to dig out my back issues of Cycle World (I take them to work). They did a large cruiser comparison a year ago or so. The Rocket III beat it in the eigth mile, I don't think they had a quarter mile time though.

In a money-no-object world, I'd have one - just for the novelty value

Saw one last Saturday when out riding with Ray (birchr).

We'd stopped for 'coffee'.
It turned heads when it arrived (obviously).
A crowd gathered and looked and pointed (obviously).
It broke down and the guy couldn't fix it (obviously).

We suggested Ray get a pic before we left, he returned for his allen keys but they were metric ....
Said the guy was having probs so we went over when the crowd thinned to ... well ... just the guy!

Talking to the guy (seemed a nice guy) his throtle cable had snapped and he was in a small village miles from anywhere with no mechanical establishment open!
He was very approachable and chatty considering he was going nowhere fast on a baking hot day with hundreds of people looking on.

Time to get out the number of the vehicle recovery service of your choice!!!

have you seen the chopper version yet??? we have 2 B/H clubs here, one is out of the dealer shop and one that is not. they are always raceing at the locale track and thier is a Rocket guy that races them. he wins when it is v8 and inline 3 but alot of them v8s are running nitros??? NITROS???? anyway they are great in a straight line but i would love to see one try the dragontail hahahahaahhaahaha they have a car rear tire....that alone would ruin the cornering.

Forgot to mention, in his defence, the guy had over 10,000 miles on it too!

Just saw one cruising the other day... man that thing looks stupid. Car tire on the back... Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Oh well, that's my $0.02.

I was cruising from the fairgrounds in Spokane yesterday back to the hotel in the middle lane of the highway. A silver bike approached from behind in the left lane. I initially dismissed it as "just another Harley." I was surprised to see BOSS HOSS on the side of the tank. I was also surprised that it was loaded down with gear like they were touring. As others have said, I can't imagine it handles very well with that flat rear automotive tire.

Is it really a car tire? I thought it was just a stupid-wide bike tire...

It definitely had a profile like a car radial tire.

Wow, I mean I believe ya, I just never took a good look myself. The last BH I saw was a trike, which actually begins to make a little sense with those things...

I went to the site and the pictures look like the bikes have bike tires, but I know what I saw.

I was lurking over on the T-Rat Rocket III forum and there was a guy over there talking about putting an automotive tire on his RIII. I hope he was joking.

benny, they are only good for straight lines and they burn the rubber off everytime they take it outa the garage so.... yea they use a car tire, i think they use bias ply rather than steel belt, i think steel belt would be squirly but bias ply would work.... FOR STRAIGHT LINE BURN OUTS hahahahahahahahaha idiots, i would love to race one of them through the dragon hahahahahahaha i will have finised a cig when he finally gets thru hahahahahahaha to each his own

FJ--on the Boss Hoss site it shows a cycle rear, but at least on this test bike the dealer mounted up this scary combo: "130/90-16 Continental motorcycle tire on the front wheel and that big, square-profile Firestone P225/70R15 radial car tire on the back."

Heck--the Ranger pick-up I used to drive ran 215/70R14's. The trike seems to make a bit more sense, but really when was the last time you looked at your bike and thought, "Gee, if it only had two rear truck tires and the back fins from a '57 chevy it'd be perfect?"

I know of one MSF instructor who has one of these...things. When they take their yearly certification, his engine fan blows over the cones. Ridiclous.

Guy showed up with a 502 ci/502 hp version with nice custom paint job couple of months ago. They definitely draw a crowd. The thing that would scare me away is the thought of dropping a 1300 lb bike. Then picking it up.
