In 87 I broke my back and after three operations and 10 years of pure suffering. I final had the thing fused together. Thats why I have been out of riding so long sold my 71 Triumph as I could not stand seeing her sit there all those years. Well I have decided that the current seat has to go after about 100 miles I'm really feeling it. I need some advise on a new seat perferrably on seats that would help allivate and support my lower back. I have a friend that calls on Mustang Seats here in CT. and he tells me he can get me a deal on a custom made seat with a lumber support. I have heard of them, but do not know anything about them. Any ideas.

John, I'm not going to be much help - Especially at this stage of the game. Just wonder if the cruiser style seating arrangement is doing more to aggravate your back than the seat itself is. My guess is that persons with chronic back situations may be better served to ride bikes with more traditional/standard seating positions.

The Mustang seats are great seats according to a few guys I know with them. The Corbins with the removable backrest (which is adjustable) is also very good for your back. I still get some butt burn not matter what seat I use, even with the wife's Air Hawk cushion (a VERY sweet seat cover by the way). I figured out the problem though....I'm old.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

A buddy of mine has a Suzuki cruiser with a Mustang seat, and he loves it. But I didn't think you could get one for our bikes. Maybe so....

Last time I looked at the mustang website, about a month ago, they did not offer anything for the Triumphs. That being said, if your buddy thinks he can help you get a custom seat, I'd definitely consider that. My best friend has a mustang on his Kawasaki Vulcan Classic, and even after I sent my saddle to corbin to be softened up, his seat is still a bit comfier than mine is.

You are right. This thread got me thinking, so I emailed Mustang. I quickly received a response from them saying that they did not make any seats for the Triumph line.
Oh well,

****** on them if they don't bother to offer standardized products for these bikes! The America has been around since 2002, it's now mid-year 2006, what gives?

They would probably get alot of orders from this site alone in no time. I know I'd be interested.

In '95 I bought a new Honda "ACE" 1100cc and after appropriate brake-in, drove a 150 mile round-trip and had serious butt burn from the stock seat. Serious in the sense it took about a full week to go away.
So I ordered a Mustang seat, with pylon and both back supports.
Shortly after installation (maybe 2 weeks?) I drove 480 miles in one day and had absolutely no problems. And my back was 57 years old then.
But after a recent call I made Mustang still does not have an off-the-shelf seat for our Triumph Americas because if they did, my bike would have them on now.
Good Luck!
