I had to lay my bike down when someone blew through a red light; only damage to bike was I snapped off about an inch of the metal clutch handle; I feel like the obvious answer is to just buy a new clutch handle, but I like to try and fix things, comes from growing up on a ranch. Any type of metal on metal bonding you could recommend, so, that I could then attempt to sauter back on. won't look great, but somehting to hd me until I am ready to spring for a new clutch handle, thanks, zeke

You could try JB Weld, Zeke. The stuff is amazing and you can get it at any parts store or Wally world.

I have come to the realization that it will be much easier and cheaper to just buy a replacement. My bio; 45 years old bike owner for ten (10) years, two kids, nine and 11, commodity trader by day (15 years), guitar player and coach at night, married 14 years, what else: 5' 9" 180 lbs. most interesting fact is probaby that I was a professional bicycle racer for 7 years in my twenties; not good enough to race the tour, but good enough to make a living eating banana's and power bars and riding a bike. that's all I have got; oh, I live in Minnetonka, MN. and was born in Minot, ND. before my speedmaster, I had a Honda Magna, 750; hope that helps with reality check

While J-B Weld is one of my favorite products, it's not nearly strong enough to put an end back on a handlebar lever.

This repair could be done, however, with low temp aluminum brazing rod. It's available by the pound, fractional pound, and even individual stick, at hardware stores, NAPA stores and I think welding supply stores. You can also find it at various trade and hobby shows, such as gun shows, model plane and train shows, ect.

The key to using it successfully is preparation. Clean the metal to be repaired very well (remembering that the higher the aluminum alloy, the faster it re-oxidizes). Heat the broken piece on a hot plate, in an oven (or, in Arizona, let it lie out in the noon day sun). Aluminum sucks the heat out something fierce, so keep it hot while you solder.

If the broken piece is small, a propane or MAP gas torch can be used. If the piece is big (lots of bulk), you may need to use an oxy-acetylene rig. Remember, you're not "welding", i.e. melting, the parent metal, you're just "brazing" it. Vee grooving the crack line/broken mating surface is usually very helpful.

Nothing beats TIG (Heli-Arc) welding, but this comes close, and is a heck of a lot less expensive.
