I have 250 miles on my new '06 TBA..Love the bike to death... When I step down from neutral to first I get the old familiar (but pretty loud )"klunk". However I often (but not always) get the same noise/ feel from 1st to second, which I have never really experienced before on other bikes. Is this something to worry about?

Very normal. Once you get it broken in and put in synthetic oil it will quiet down abit more. Get some louder pipes if it still bothers you.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

Thanks.. I get some stares and I can't tell if it's because of the shift noise or they just like the bike.. hopefully the latter.

Have the same loud clunk in my '06 Speedmaster... I was also assured that it was normal, but with just over 1000 miles in the two and a half weeks I have owned it, i am waiting until the second scheduled service to switch over to synthetic oil... hopefully that does as you say quiet it down a bit, but in the mean time... I am having my Septres put on Friday .

Topher, it won't quiet way down. They clunk, thats what they do. As Pat said, a good synthetic helps it a bit but will never eliminate it.
Chris, its the bike as far as the looks, get used to it, it will happen a lot. I thought it was just my good looks but my wife sat me down and made me face reality. Its the bike.

Thanks satxron, something is better than nothing I guess. Are you sure about it only being the bike, I could have swore that I read in the manual that Triumph riders are better looking .

My 06 TBA clucks big time going into first gear, fourth British bike I have owned 65 BSA 66 Bonneville and a 71 Tiger they all clucked going into first gear and occasional going into a higher gear.
Never replaced a tranny or gear yet.

I read somewhere that a heavier aftermarket shift link somehow reduced the noise (don't know how... but it's what I read). The looks have gotta be the bike! I was out riding this afternoon and a real pretty blonde in a Saab convertible slowed down beside me and hollered "I love your bike!". I must admit, made me feel pretty good.
'06 TBA - Black, AI and Snorkel removed, K&N Drop In, Gutted Stock Pipes, 145/42, 2 turns out.
