It's not often I get the urge to wind out my bike to these kinds of speeds, but there was this nice empty stretch of road coming down from Kitt Peak where I felt the need to open it up. At least I still know after 41,000 miles that she'll do an honest 100 mph(110 indicated with a taller front tire).

Gotta Love It!! I bet your bike felt like it still had more to go. I've had my speedo upto 110 a couple times. I love it!

Yeah, I started to run out of road. The straightaway was only about a mile long and ended with a stop sign. I speed shifted up without using the clutch. Didn't take long to run through the gears with the 16 tooth sprocket on.

After another 100 miles, I'll be in the 300-600 miles catagory on running-in the ST so can open it up to 6000 rpm. Hit it yesterday (by mistake ) which is good for an indicated 105 ish. 0-100 miles, >3500 rpm = 60 mph 100-300 miles, >5000 rpm = 80mph when it was 100 miles, now at 200 miles, it's 85 mph. 300-600 miles, >6000 rpm, my next target for this morning before I meet the guys at 11am.

Well...yeah! But I didn't feel any wind. Coming off Kitt Peak you can get a good view of the road ahead to see if any traffic is coming your way...not to mention an eye out for lightbars on top of Tohono O'Odham police vehicles. But it isn't like it was a steep downhill, just a gentle grade.
Adey, With all those speed cameras where you live, I don't know if I could restrain myself on a bike like the ST. Of course after all the discipline you've showed getting your weight down, I'm sure it'll be a piece of cake.

I've been near the triple digit number exactly two times in four years. I went 105 the first year just to see how fast it would go and 99 a few weeks ago just trying to keep up with Donnie and Blast with the throttle wound tight. I think I need to go on the "Adey" diet.

100 MPH must be a cool feeling and a great milestone. Congratulations!
We made it to POINT 9 Ton Up yesterday on Route 78, riding 2-up.

Riding back after meeting up with Ade and Jan yesterday....it was during the England game....the motorway was seriously empty. Was quite happy averaging 85-90 and then the little devil came out to play.
Got up to 102 and my arms started hurting... so backed off.
Not bad for a bike that is so stock it's rediculous...!

Now apart from my slip and mentioning the test ride on the ST, you wouldn't catch me condoning such foolhardy behaviour ...
Just don't tell Mr Triumph what I was doing today while 'running-in' the bike
I can blame the Jack the lad in his Focus.

"I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that it might incriminate me" Isn't that the legalese answer?

Yes is that a particularly legalese answer. But by not saying that you didn't mishave yesterday, I can infer that you DID misbehave.... Don't blame you though....

Never gave it much thought, but I assume by Ton Up (on THAT side of the pond) you mean 160 KMs/HR?
Maybe it's the humidity. I can get there, but I need a good stretch of road to do it, and especially if I'm to run her up to 110 mph...that's about the limit. Made a long run not long after installing the 18t rear sprocket, and found I could go faster in 4th (but the gas mileage S*CKED). Hit reserve at 91 miles I think. Trying to run WFO in 5th I hit reserve at about 120 miles, but she just didn't want to much more than 90 mph. Since then I've had the carb needles shimmed (I drilled the air filter and air box bottom first), and she's game for 100 a bit easier, but I know there is not much left after that. Still running stock exhaust, so I know that makes a difference, too.
It amazes me how many bike reviews I read in CYCLE WORLD about bikes that easily do 135 mph, and a lot do more than that. Does anybody really need (or use) that kind of top-end?

Indeed! One of the biggest hurdles here is the potholed and poorly maintained road surfaces.
Today I hit an open seam while changing lanes at about 80 mph that gave me a scary front end wiggle. I'll need a long stretch of freshly paved and uncongested interstate before I can hit the Ton.

Heheh, the ton ain't all that hard to hit on the Triumph, frame -- I've burried the speedo before, and that was before I 1) drilled the airbox and 2) put on the 17-tooth sprocket. I wanna borrow a buddy's GPS, but I think she'll do 130 (and be quite stable doing it) --Jaeger

I run Bub's and my carbs were set up at a local chopper shop but I have gone an indicated 116 on my bike and that's in Southwestern Pa with all the hills. I think without my saddle bags and laying on the tank I could get over 120 easy.....

I try to hit the ton at least once a day, just to check if the speedometer still works. Kind of hard to wave at other bikers though. I did a steady ton-up bomb run from Ft Lauderdale to Boynton Beach over the weekend (about 30 miles) and got low 30's MPG- not bad. The neck was a little sore afterward, Newcastle Brown to the rescue.

My problem is wind resistance more than power. I did blow past a flock of geezer glides in NH doing the flat tracker in the straightaway, head down left arm behind the back. would have loved to have seen their faces but they were too far away....

Nope, he means good old imperial MPH - we invented it and we are gonna keep it! (Despite President B-liar and his attempts to make us all good Europeans!)
