I suspect this should be in the Other Bikes bit, but I'm so happy it's in here so everyone can see..... I have posted previously about my dad's bike - a 1943 Triumph 3HW. Since I got my Triumph and the VMCC Festival of 1000 Bikes has been advertised, he's had a bit between his teeth to get it running and take it to the Festival. Problem was......it hasn't run since 1962. It's been in the garage for as long as I can remember, and so the overall condition wasn't bad. He's stripped the engine, and bought a gritblaster to get most of the paint and surface rust off the wheels, mudguardsetc. He's left a bit of the original paint that is under the number plate. He's bought a new seat, and made a new wiring loom.....ok so that wasn't really hard for him - he's an electrian, but it only consists of 3 wires..... Anyway..... Our tickets for the Festival arrived today (around the track on the Saturday for us all and around the Festival and watch the padade on the Sunday). Unknown by me the MOT test was today also.....and it passed!!!!! So it can go!!!! Now I have to check how to ride it.........and remember the gear change is on the other side.... A pic is on it's way....I'll post it later.

Congrats to you and your pop, Gina.
Very cool!!! Looking forward to your pictures being posted here.
Now, go have a blast at that vintage meet. It should be even more fun with your own classic there.
Cheers, Dwight

Parked in '62? That's 29 years of riding. I should imagine that, after the cleaning and lubricating, it probably started right up and will probably run another 29 years or so. And that is why I have a hard time not laughing when people talk about Japanese quality and reliability. But, be careful there Gina, you might end up liking to ride it so much you'll want to trade for it.

OK Ok......He sent me a pic to my phone....but I can't find the cable to upload it to my computer. He's tried to email it to me, but he's having problems with his ISP... and right now there's other problems, but as his ISP is also the cable TV provider, and there's a small football match going on...so I can only presume there's an overload at the other end....
Will be one soon...

Is it a single cylinder 500cc? Looks like it will be a good project. Can't weight to see the bike after you get finished with it!

Single yes, 500 no, just a 350 single... Just hoping nothing happens to the engine. Remakably for the time, the engine on a 3HW is just for the 3HW...whereas it seems that every other engine at the time was relatively interchangeable. At this point you can now also read expensive. Don't want to change the engine block anyway....it's the one it left Meriden with....
