Came upon this Saturday moring about 1/2 hour after it happened. Less than a mile for my house at an intersection I cross regularly a young man ran a stop sign and plowed a Gold Wing, killing the rider. A ticket was given for failure to stop. Will these ever be seen as reckless vehicular homocide? Turns out I work with the rider's son-in-law. Doubt if I'll ever ride by that crossing again without thinking of it.
The two other local deaths this year that I recall were due at least in part to the riders speed and alcohol consumption. This guy was just out for a relaxing Saturday morning cruise.
Watch out for the other guy.

In the very least, they should realize that anyone who "can't see" stopsigns or motorcycles are not fit to drive and should have their license permanently revoked on the spot.

Reminds me of the old saying "Drive it like you stole it" Meaning you never know when it will end so enjoy life every day.
Sad news for sure.

Very sad news indeed. My condolences to his family. Accidents like these definitley need to be seen as vehicular homocide.

That is truly sad to hear. My heartfelt condolences to this brother's family and friends. I think any motorist given a ticket for failing to follow the law that kills somebody must be held accountable in some fashion. Un-freaking-believable!
Doug, where ya' located in IL?

We'll have to hook up for a ride sometime. You're only about 100 miles from my place.

Got a bud that lives up there.

Kankakee is about 40 miles or so south of me. I am in Romeoville, just north of Joliet.

That's tragic news. WHEN are some folks going to realise that as a motorist they're in charge of a potentially lethal weapon?!! I don't know... think the idiot responsible should be facing charges of manslaughter IMO...

A failure to stop citation, or a running a red light citation is not sufficient when you end up killing someone, regardless of what type of vehicle the victim is in or on. Maybe not homicide but depending on the circumstances there should at least be an involuntary manslaughter charge attached. Most of the motorcycle fatalities I read about here in Sacramento are the riders fault. Don't get me wrong, but I'm encouraged by that fact. It means those of us who ride smart do have a pretty good chance of surviving out there for many years. Remember guys, ride like you're invisible and never take your eyes off of them....all of them.
