I have a question with my gear lever. This being my first bike I find I have a little trouble shifting gears. Is there some adjustment to make it easier. I also am looking into floor boards. Triumph floor boards. Would this help to make it easier to shift and would anyone recommend the triumph floor boards. I have looked at the front peg and lever for some kind of adjustment. Is there an adjustment possible. Thanks Doug

If you look at the splined gearchange shaft coming out of the bottom of the LH sidecover, you'll notice that that linkage is secured by a bolt, onto the splined shaft. If you undo the bolt, you can slide the linkage end off the shaft and re-orient it either forward or backward, if you shift it backward, you'll be lowering the shifter closer to the peg, if you shift if forward, you'll be raising the shifter away from the peg. If this is a new bike, you may find that getting a few miles under your belt will see the trans/gearchange mechanism loosen up a little.

you can also just adjust the linkage rod...back off the locking nuts (one is left handed and one is std thread) then spin the "rod" this will move the lever up/down depending upon the direction of spin....when I got mine the shifter was set so low it was a b!tch to get my toe under to shift...had to "point" my foot so far forward it was easier to "grab" it from the side with my boot....sounds like you could use some adjustment also!

Yea thats the problem. I really have to point my toe down to shift. The shift lever is really low. Hey Rob do you have floor boards? Thinking about the triumph boards. It looks a lot easier on the feet for long and even short rides. Thanks Guy

Make the adjustment from the shifter rod. When you loosen the nuts and turn the rod, you will see how much adjustment you have.
I have the floarboards and absolutely love them.

Thanks for your reply. When I return from PA I will purchase the floor boards. They just look more comfortable than the pegs. Thanks again, Doug

I also use the Floor Boards with the stock shifter and feel this is the most comfortable setup for me.

I also had plenty of adjustment on the foot shifter to raise it so my foot sits under it when I'm flat footed with my 12 4E boot.

I just bought an '06 Amercia and with the Triumph deal of $500 in free accessories (if you buy before 30 June) the first thing I ordered added to my new TBA was the Triumph floor boards. I also have boards (as stock) on my '03 H-D Ultra and added them to my Honda ACE 1100 when I bought it new in '95. So you can see I've many years experience with floor boards and won't own a bike without them.
I also had a problem with the positioning of the shift lever when using the stock pegs until the boards came in. The service tech said he didn't change the position of the shift lever but I do notice now that with the boards installed my booted toe slides under the shift lever real nice.
Floor Boards = Good decision!

I went to the floorboards for the same reason. Floorboards and the Corbin were the best two comfort mods I made. I still had to adjust the shift lever to accomodate my boot when using floorboards. I used the "spindle" method outlined above with no leverage problems. The floorboards are over-priced. I was lucky enough to find a used set, so you may want to consider waiting and keeping your eyes open.

Tom
