I work for a Caterpillar dealer and found this thing on their website this evening... http://www.cat.com/cda/layout?m=69104&x=7Some points to notice, the front wheel looks like a final drive and sprocket from a hi-drive dozer, such as the D11R in the background. The grill running between the downtubes is similar to the grills on most Cat equipment. The fuel tank has a small grill on it, similar to the back up alarm mount on a dozer fuel tank. The belt drive area resembles the roller frame and final drive of a dozer as well. And last, but not least, check out the rain cap on the exhaust pipe. I feel violated.....

Hi Grump What do you expect from a marriage of Harley and Orange County Choppers?? Is it only me that thinks it but don't the guys at Orange County seem to be disappearing up their own butts lately? There must be help lines for violated craftsmen, I hope you recover quickly as I need your wit to keep me out of therapy. Take it easy

Has anybody had enough of these OCC jokers yet? Why doesn't the discovery channel go discover something original?

A while back, USA Today had an article about the OCC guys and how the industry views them.
Jesse James (who I respect..I guess I just have a soft spot for white trash) called them "Cake Decorators" He stance was basically, they don't build thier frames, do thier paint, build thier parts, they don't really do anything more than decorate cakes.
I thought it was a fitting description.

I guess I'll be the voice of disent here. I think it looks kind of cool, I wouldn't own it, but I like the look of the Cat about it. As far as the OCC gang goes, who cares about these guys anyway? Isn't their 15 minutes of fame over yet? Geez, someone blow up their shop with them in it and put us all out of misery. OK, not really, not condoning violence. Even they're entitled to their opinion, no matter how wrong it is.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

Grump,
Don't most, if not all, CAT products have roll bars?? I think there may be a safety issue here. Who's calling OSHA?
Not having a "dish" or cable I miss out on all the fun. I only see the OCC/WCC stuff on rare occassion, so I find it fairly entertaining. Back to my cave now..........

Yes it is kind of ugly. I never considered that a Cat D-11 could be the inspiration for a motorcylcle. What percentage of the people with OCC shirts on that you see walking around have ever ridden on a chopper let alone owned one? In my experience, choppers look cool, but handle like dirt. I am glad that have been able get old enough to realize that looking cool and being cool are two different things.

Grump, glad to see they could find enough time for a tour between strikes, but I will agree, the plant in East Peoria is pretty impressive (grew up 45 minutes from there). Nothing like seeing railroad cars used as "workpiece carriers" to shuttle the "components" around. And, in it's own ugly way, it is unique looking, and will surely at least get people in the dealers.
As far as the Paulies go, I flick right on past pretty much any bike builder show anymore (and car builder shows too, since they all feature whining egomaniacs anymore who just seem to do nothing but argue, and slap together parts bought from other people)
Hmmm, time for a ride....

Bikerbob, given that you can now buy OCC and Jessie James clothes at Wal-mart right alongside the Kathie Lee "designer" stuff, probably not many...

Here are a couple of rules of thumb to help out.
1. Anything that is labeled "fancy" or premimium usally isn't.
2. Anyone wearing a West Coast or OCC shirt cant afford one.

It's the CAT Yellow paint that gives it a terrible appearance. But its making an appearance at 30 Cat dealers starting May 1. Grump, can we expect a picture with you on the beast?

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Thanks for sharing! But I gotta tell ya, I LOVE IT! It looks like a big d@mn Lego bike. Oh yeah, it's ugly, but so's a backhoe or front-end loader. I guess it's so ugly that I like it. As for OCC vs WCC, I don't like to watch either anymore because I don't like all the attitude. And oh Lord, both these guys have'em! But I can appreciate both skill sets when I look at the bikes. JJ's bikes are the epitome of craftsmanship while OCC creates highly original works of art. I'm all for both because to me bikes are both.

custus, I have yet to find a list of the dealers, so I have no idea if it will come to mine. However, when I got to work Friday afternoon, there was a large poster of Paul and paul standing in front of a D11 saying "This will be one tough ride" or some other nonsense on the door of the service department office.... As I work steady second shift, if they do show up they will probably be gone by the time I get to work. I only hope the weather is nice enough that I can ride my TA to work that day....

Grump, That has to be the worse looking bike OCC has built yet. Normally I like the theme stuff they build but this thing is horrible. I agree with you.

Man, I'd take it in a second... if you gave it to me. Could you imagine what you could sell that for?! With that kind of money you could buy 8 or 9 real bikes!

Don, Having just read through all the posts, I do agree...Butt freaking ugly. True to its inspiration and a testimony to the execution, but butt ugly nevertheless. However, as far as OCC goes...and this isn't sent your way, just covering it all in one post... Yeah I know it's become a fad thing...like goth kids shopping at Hot Topic. Yes, irks me when I see people with HD stuff on that don't own one, OCC stuff that can't ride. etc. But...I like the show for what it's worth. If these guys are getting full of themselves hard to blame them...almost no one handles fame well. As far as Jesse James...HE doesn't do much of his own fab work anymore either. I've watched a few of his shows and he spends half his time sitting on his butt watching his "heros" compose. I'm not saying he can't, but same can be said for the Teutles. And...after all, concept and design is an art in itself and you know these guys CAN in fact do their own work. It's TV after all, we can't get too wound up about this stuff. BB

Well said BB, it is TV, and the editors will show us whatever THEY want and it's usually the drama, etc.
One thing I am sick of is the themes... How bout just a cool bike? Anyone?

Benny, Interesting point. Now that we've become so used to seeing shows like this, what exactly WOULD a plain ol' bike be? What's the line between a custom and a theme bike? Does ANY identifying insignia or design element make it a theme bike? Hey, I have the Templar Cross, scorpions and my family crest on mine. So, is that a custom or a theme bike? Actually, I did see just a darn cool bike last year. A Kaw Intuder. There was NOTHING on it anywhere to identify it as such. All custom replacement parts and paint, cool everything. If the guy shows up again this year at the rides, I'll get a pic. I want my buddy to do the paint on my bike the same way. I want to leave the bike basically the same but I want the silver wings ghosted into the background. I'm having a hard time explaining it to him so I'm just going to have to drag him to the cruise night and show him. Been a drag that I haven't been around as much lately. It's weird, like coming back to the old neighborhood after you've been away. Lot's of the same faces, lost some of them, and a bunch of new guys I never seen. Nice to hear from YOU again. We really need to hook up this summer at Pat's and bring our gear and do some jamming. I'll let him know we're coming. He'll need to up his beer production. BB

Tad, I'll watch OCC sometimes, it can be entertaining for reasons other than the bikes. I have watched the other bike/car shows as well. Usually it's only when nothing else is on. To me, however, there is nothing left for anyone to do with a motorcycle that hasn't been done a thousand times over.... As for theme bikes, what's next?? The SaraLee bike? The Tidybowl bike? The Keebler Cookie bike? The Oscar Meyer Weiner bike? The OxyClean bike? The Alpo bike?.... Whatever the market will bear, I guess... But that Cat bike is still one ugly waste of metal

Yuck.
I'd lke to see them do a theme bike to honor all the Gyneologists out there. I can see it now... speculum hand grips, stirrup foot pegs... Imgine the paint job that one would have!

I agree Grump. Pretty ugly. I can see some of the stuff they do, like a "Lance Armstonrg" chopper to benefit charity, even the "Lincoln Navigator" chopper wasn't too bad but a chopper based on heavy equipment is a stretch. I always thought the Discovery Channel was in to Science and stuff. When did they decide to do choppers and hot rods? I think they are wandering from their roots. -PES

I can excuse OCC for the "Cat Bike" because Cat is a paying customer & OCC is just giving them what they want. but... if you want to see "one butt-ugly bike" then go to the following link here
"Speedmaster" is a title not a name, - and the title is not plural.
