Not too uncommon. Hot stops will do it. How many miles on yours?
Mine have been that way for a while now, and I may let the dealer have it long enough to decide whether or not they want to replace them under warranty, or I may just keep riding. Even if they replaced the rotors it could happen again.
Cars and trucks suffer the same fate. At the Lexus dealership where I write service/consult, I usually advise out of warranty customers to NOT spend money towards a remedy unless they are very uncomfortable with the condition, or until they need the front pads replaced. When the condition is properly explained, most are more comfortable with what causes it and quit worrying about it. Though it can get to be a severe condition, usually it is only a mild case. If the vehicle is still in warranty, then obviously I will correct the condition. Believe me - my technicians would love to resurface the rotors on every one they see - often telling me of the condition that the customer had not even mentioned. The cars seem to shimmy more when braking from higher speeds, but like you, my SM bobs pretty good at lower speeds just before stopping. I'm not too worried about it.
Others here will have differing opinions - many have had the rotors replaced under warranty. You having an '03 may mean yours is over 2 years old?
