Can anyone tell me what size the bolt is that goes through the top of the triple trees into the risers? I'd guess somewhere between an M8 and an M12...
Just want to get a better idea of which aftermarket risers I can use without having to drill out the holes in the triple trees.

AB
M10 x 70 for the america, don't know length for the speedie, but same diameter. Handlebar clamp bolts are M8 x 30 for both.

Thanks Nobby. M10 that's excellent news! Means I can use exactly the same billet risers I've swapped onto my Jap cruiser as I just love them. They're made by Aeromach (they supply billet mirrors to WCC and OCC) and are 7" tall, take a 1" bar, and use M10 bolts from underneath. Yes I know that I'll need longer cables, brake line and wiring...

Aside from the handlebar size and cable lengths and such, is the bolt size the only thing that needs to be considered? I'm wondering because i want to get some risers and was thinking i could go to some honda, yamaha, etc shops and find a bike with risers i like at a height i like, then see what bolt size they take and if it's the same as my speedy i could buy a pair and they'd work. Is this correct or is there some other thing i'd have to consider besides bolt size? and would the only reason i'd need the same size because a smaller size would cause the bolt to have free play thru the triple clamp?

Might sound obvious, but you need to make sure the risers take 1 inch handlebars. Not sure of all Japanese makes/models, but some of them might have 7/8" bars.
Another option: There's been some owners around here who've done Harley risers, and they use 1/2" bolts to mount them in the top yoke. It's just a matter of drilling out the holes yoke so they'll fit.

Sorry Dazco but Honda's cruisers use an M12 as do Yamaha, while Suzuki use an M14. The only Jap cruisers I know of that use an M10 are Kawasakis, which is what my daily ride is.

Ok, so it's nothing more than making sure the riser either uses the same size bolt or drilling the clamp for whatever size the rizer needs assuming it's larger. And kawis are the only cruisers that use the same bolt as the speedy. thanks.

The other option is to get a stud made up with different threads at each end - then you don't have to drill the top yoke.

Great chart, thanks ! Someone at RAT was telling me about grades and what to get but i didn't realize those marks noted the grade. I'll save that chart for future ref.
