Just got in the revised SS replacement. It is 17" tall (18" above headlight) and has a slight recurve at the top. The lines follow the original with the sides near the bottom about a 1/2" wider. It comes in clear and Light Gray tint. This one is light gray, very much like the factory tint. I haven't been but on a short spin and will update this post as soon as I can. My initial impression is that it will do everything I had hoped. It looks MUCH better than the first prototype which was too wide. It now looks as good or better than factory and will easily take care of riders up to 6'1". Here are some pictures. If it is not raining, I'll update tomorrow.

If you contact Clearview, the new model is: TRI-ASGM. The cost is around $150.00. Be sure you make sure it is the newer "narrow version made for Bob". My preference is the light gray tint which actually looks more invisible than the clear.

That's a nice clean looking design. Would you do some close ups of the lower mounts if you get a chance?

I'm 6' with a Speedmaster. I'm wondering if that height would put the top at around the bridge of my nose?

You can check out my gallery as the mounts are exactly the same as the summer screen in the older pictures. All required is taking off the factory one and put on the new (4 screws - 5 minutes). I'm 6' and sitting in riding position with a yardstick on top of the screen, leveled, it hits my moustache. I see over the top, but the wind is over my head.

Nice looking shield! Actually one of the better ones I've seen. I have the Roadster screen, I like the looks of it, but get alot of buffeting and I'm only 5'6".

Nice shield!
Is it my imagination, or are the mounts for the summer screen identical to the Roadster screen?

Al, they are very similar, but my understanding is they are not interchangible as the spacing or bracket lengths may be different. Clearview Shields has been making a Roadster Screen replacement in stock and two additional sizes for some time. I've been trying since last August to get them to get a nice Summer Screen replacement. The slight recurve eliminates most buffeting and directs the wind up and out. I'll be doing a full road test today.

Gotcha, too bad. It would be nice to pop on an abbreviated shield during the hot summer months.

Just got back from a road test of the new Clearview TA/SM Summer Screen replacement. The only new one they are making is a 17" which is 3 3/4" higher than the stock SS and looks very similar to factory. The stock one had very buffeted wind that hit me right in the eyes which required me to wear a helmet shield but I still had problems with the wind shaking my head.

This new Clearview shield does have buffeted wind coming off the top and upper sides but much less intense than the stock one. This wind is now hitting me on the top of my helmet above the visor. I rode for a good bit at all speeds up to 80 mph. I feel there is no perfect windshield as I have tried a number of them. This screen will work fine for me or anyone 5'8" - 6' tall that had similar problems with the Triumph Summer Screen. The Triumph one works great for 5'8" or under but the buffeted wind is very annoying for anyone taller. If you are taller than 6' this new one may create some of the same problems unless you have a lower profile seat.

Clearview may be making one taller in the near future, but I plan to stick with this one as I really didn't want the look of a large windshield. I can ride with my helmet shield off and I don't have the wind pressure on my upper body. I also think it looks good enough to leave on my bike all the time.

Some wind is what riding is all about, but I do like a little more comfort. When it's cold or I'm on a long trip, I'll probably wear my helmet shield, but when I get where I'm going, I can swap it with the visor and still be comfortable. The Clearview shield is excellent quality and fit the factory mounts perfectly. I would advise loosening all screws and mounts to be sure it is even before tightening. You could take it off easily with the 4 screws that mount the shield but you would still have the upper arms sticking up. Triumph really didn't intend for it to be an easy on/off screen. I would also recommend the light gray tint which looks like the stock one. It actually makes it MORE invisible as I said before.

This is the 4th shield I've tried, one of which was the WindVest. This one looks great on the bike and is the best compromise I've found. If you already have the Triumph Summer Screen and are tired of all the head shaking or couldn't stand it - getting this new shield would be your best buy - way cheaper than adding a WindVest or many other shields with mounts.

Bob,

Thanks for posting and spending the time to get the screen right. Looks good. I'll be ordering myself one.

Can the Triumph Summer Screen mounting brackets be purchased from Triumph without having to by the Triumph shield? Are there part #s for those items?

Keith, I don't know. You might want to check directly with a Triumph dealer and ask if the Summer Screen mounting hardware could be ordered (no screen) and at what cost. If you find out anything, please let me know or post it on this thread.

According to my girl Ashley at British-USA, the parts are available separately, and are as follows:

Lower Mounting Bracket part #s A9750206 & A9750207 @ $36.58/ea.

Upper Fixing Kit (the bars) part # A9918018 @ $82.73

Bolts (2) part # A9710148 @ $1.65/ea.

Lock Nuts (2) part # 3350004-T0301 @ $1.98/ea.

That should add up to $163.15 before tax.

Then whatever the Clearview replacement shield costs.

I asuume that includes the rubber grommets and pieces that attach the shield to the mounts. At $163. plus the Clearview replacement, you're at about the same price as the complete set from Triumph, BUT, you would have a taller and higher quality shield.

I'm real tempted, Sonny. It's either that, or a Flyscreen. I rode to Livingston and back today, to see my Dad. It's 80+ miles one way up Hwy 59. Feet back on the passenger pegs, right hand on the throttle, left hand on the tank, clocking 80-90 on my speedo all the way there, depending on the speed limit.

What concerns me isn't so much buffeting around my head as much as buffeting of the steering head - especially around 18 wheelers. Having never been behind a screen before, I'm a little leery of anything that is going to act as a "sail" on the front of the bike - especially at 90 mph.

I'm really leaning towards the flyscreen, though I know it does little for keeping the air off my chest or arms. A friend with a great deal of experience is recommending the Slipstreamer Spitfire - maybe similar in size to the Summer Screen, or the Clearview replacement, but in my opinion, the Triumph and Clearview parts are of better quality and look better, too.

So, it's $300+ for a quality screen offering decent protection and forcing a change in riding style? Or $120 for the National Cycle Flyscreen that I know won't dictate how I ride. (Everybody's opinion matters here, guys and girls!)

By the way, it rained on me all the way home this afternoon, and I was laughing all the way. Still riding 80-90 when I could, but also stuck behind slow traffic because the rain was so intense at times, too. The Metzlers are GREAT! (And so is the SHOEI RF1000 helmet.)

These aren't the fastest bikes on two wheels, but way fun when riding on the edge of legal limits (9 miles over limit is my legal limit - usually - most of the time ). Would a Summer Screen sized shield affect the way I ride?

I just thought you could use the mounting hardware off my screen and have a back up screen. I did some research to find out what exactly I had and it's the triumph roadster screen that sells for 400.00 new. BTW I've hit the 100 MPH mark with my shield. I'll tell you since removing the shield it's alot harder holding on to the bike at those speeds without it.

Would you want to clock 80 mph (or more) for 10-20 mile stretches at a time, though? A lot of my rides find me going that speed even from gas pump to gas pump non-stop - 150 miles or more.

If the Roadster screen poses no concern (with steering head buffeting), then I fail to see how the Summer Screen would.

I was thnking the same thing - about having the whole set up, and a back up screen. Thanks for the offer - you might want to put it in Classifieds if you really want to sell it. If I do anything other than a Flyscreen, I think my first choice would be the Sportech, but still not sure that is going to fit.

I've had more time to evaluate the Clearview screen. There is slightly more deflected wind (probably due to size) that comes under the screen and over the tank to my sides. As I said before, there is buffeted wind off the top and upper sides but not as head shaking as the stock one. At 6' I'm probably at the limit for this 17" screen as the buffeted wind hits above the visor of my helmet. This would probably be ideal for riders in the 5'8-5'11" range.

It looks really good on the bike and I plan to sit tight awhile. I would still highly recommend this replacement for anyone that already has the Triumph Summer Screen and needs a larger replacement. If you have to buy the hardware and the screen it would get as pricey as the WindVest and there are other screens that may work for less that include mounting hardware. As a SS replacement, it is a very good deal and excellent quality.

Next month I'm taking a 500 mile trip and I'll be able to really tell how well it does on extended highway riding. But, I'll probably still use a helmet shield to cut down wind noise and increase comfort. The great part is being able to ride without the helmet shield which was VERY uncomfortable with the stock one.

I got back this week from a 500 mile round trip - mostly all interstate to New Orleans. With the 18T sprocket the bike is extremely smooth 75-80 mph (about 4000 rpm). That's where I stayed most of the time but did run around 90 for short distances. The new SS replacement did great, although as I said before, I like to wear a face shield on my helmet on long trips. It cuts down on wind and noise not to mention helping during the rain I went through.

I'll reiterate again, anyone that has the Triumph Summer Screen and it is too short for them - you need to check out this screen. It looks just as good, works great for riders up to 6' and fits easily on the factory mounts. If you contact Clearview Shields to get one, remind them it is the more narrow one (2nd prototype) they made for Bob. They'll know what you are talking about.

This might be a dumb question but without going to a Triumph shop, how do you know if you have a roadster or summer shield? I think I have the roaster but not sure. Thanks! Scott

The roadster screen has chrome bands while the summer one doesn't.
