I wonder if Indian riders ever get the following question from the "passing uninformed".....
"Indian Motorcycle huh? When did they STOP makin' them again?"
Cheers, Dwight
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Good question. I got the standard Triumph question again today. "When did they start making them again?" The next question took me by surprise, (kind of). "Do you want to buy my Heritage Softail?"

I bet they get that same question but probably not as often. Indian seemed to get a lot of press when production started.

If you happen to know someone who owns one of the new $20,000 VR 880 Nortons, you can ask them the same question. I just heard today that they closed the doors at their Gladstone, Oregon plant March 31. This kind of makes me appreciate John Bloor and Triumph a little more, Thailand or not.

Before the good Friar moves this one to where it probably belongs(Other Bikes)...
tbarider, Regarding the recent unfortunate news of Kenny Dreer's apparent failure to revive Norton: I only wish he had those deep pockets John Bloor has. I think it'll be a downright shame if that new Norton 961 is ultimately written into the M/C history books as "stillborn". Though, some reports are he hasn't given up completely(good news in my book), and that he's running a very small operation at this time, and has hopes that some financing can eventually come about so that those beauties can someday see the marketplace.
The Indians: I've always wanted a '47 Chief, but those bikes that came from Gilroy California, were in my mind never much more than a S&S motor(vvvvvibration galore) in a custom frame, with a couple of valanced fenders attached.
I remember reading that John Britten, the Kiwi builder of one of the greatest limited-production motorcycles in M/C history, the race-proven Britten V1000, was at one time involved in talks with the owners of the Indian name with a goal to build a world-beater, but as you may know, fate(Mr.Britten's untimely death of cancer at the too young age of 45) saw to it that that never came to pass.
Cheers, Dwight

The owner (Kelly) of my dealer (Cascade Moto Classics) is friends with Kenny Dreer. The last time I was talking to Kelly, he was telling me that Kenny is going to retain the rights and everything and try to make another run at it sometime.
