Loaded with Brit bikes early in the film, in New Zealand. Local bikers there picked on Burt and challenged him.
He raced on a bunch of Triumphs, BSAs,etc. on the beach.
When the race started, Burt's bike sputtered and died. He had to get friends to give him a push. The Triumphs ran off and left him. That's all I'll say now. Good flick. A little slow moving for some, but I loved it. To get a good grip on who Burt Munro was, the film would have had to last another 4 hours. I'll be getting a copy Tuesday.
I'll bet by next Monday, several members here will join me talking about their "motorcicle".
There are some rather memorable bits in the film that all will enjoy. Wish ya'll could have seen it on the big screen, but I had to ride 2½ hours each way to see it.
My wife and daughter both cried a couple times during the movie.
Ride Safe,
Dennis

khatt,
Tons! There's one part forwards the beginning of the film, circa early 1960s, where Bert Munro(Anthony Hopkins) aboard his 1920 Indian races against a bunch of kids riding '50s and '60s Triumphs, BSAs,and Nortons on the beach in his native New Zealand. This is before he leaves for America and the Bonneville Salt Flats.
This film has it all. It's a terrific human-interest story, containing both subtle and broad humor. It's also a "road-picture" with likeable characters found along the way, and a main character you find yourself cheering for at the end.
Needless to say...I liked it. A LOT!
Cheers, Dwight (oh...and it's also somewhat of a salute to the U.S. and the American spirit of individualism)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

That may have been their while point in its release date. However, no matter what the release date was, it is more than worth it to get it.

Soren, No, the release date was just as clueless as the entire marketing fiasco. Bad marketing, released in 181 theaters in the states (at maximum saturation). The Aussie company that marketed the movie, wanted to rely on word of mouth advertising, then released it in 17 cities in the USA. The "word of mouth" advertising got the movie into 181 theatres. Total disaster. The "cross dressing homosectual satan worshippers" that marketed the film, didn't want it to take away from their beloved Brokestick Mountain that was playing at the same time. Now that the WFI DVD is out, they can release it again with proper ads, and fill theatres up. I still can't believe that with 36 million motorcyclist in this country, and 7 qweer cowboys, that Bu++Crack mountain showed in every building that had room for a screen. Disgusting

After seeing this post I went out and rented this movie. I had wanted to see it on the big screen but it never made it to my area. It was a great movie. I strongly recommend to those who have not yet seen this movie. The DVD also has a documentary of Munro that was done in the 60's. Very interesting to see the real life Burt Munro and listen to what he had to say. Many of the things he says on the documentary were used in the movie.

Just got my copy and watched it this afternoon after we went for a nice long ride. Good thing we went for the ride before we watched the movie, I would have been going balls out if we watched it first.

Your right about that. It could have that effect. A really good film. Just saw it on the big screen two weekends ago, I like the way he made his own pistons. A unique process of manufacturing.

When it was released I went with a local group of cicle riders to West Palm Beach and saw it on the big screen. Group of 8 and of course only one Brit Bike.

I gotta be the pickiest person you'll ever meet as far as movies go. In fact, i can't remember the last time i rented a movie i really liked enough to be glad i rented it. I watched WFI last nite and loved it. Best movie i've seen in years. And not because it concerns a motorcycle. This is a movie anyone would like. It's just plain excellent. Hopkins gives what i'd consider as good an acting job as i've ever seen.

I watched it last night also. Hopkins was great, and yes, I thought it was about a whole lot more than bikes.

I just got watching it again (rented it, I will buy it next weekend). What an awesome movie!!
You know the record for a production bike under 1000cc is 182.759 mph. The record fro a modified gas bike under 1000cc is only 174.909. I wonder what it would take to get the Speedy to go that fast? The record for a production bike under 750cc is 162.969 mph. You think a stock Daytona 675 can go faster than that? I love to go fast. It just gets me thinking, thinking hard. Bonneville is only a 13 hour drive from here.

Watched it for the third time now, Even down under it had few screens showing it. Great to see motorcycle enthusiasts shown in a positive way rather than the usual knucklehead cliche.

I could relate to his lemon tree, I have been trying it on my Key Lime tree.No limes yet ...maybe pissin in the wind. Went to rent it a few minutes ago and all checked out. Guess alot of Dad's got to watch it on Dad's Day.

I just watched my father's day gift, "World's fastest Indian", and my advice is, BUY IT! I saw it in the theater, but the DVD has the 1971 documentary, "Offerings to the God of Speed". It was a great compliment to the movie; you can see where some dialog was lifted word for word. The Oscar's missed the boat on this one (so what else is new?)
