I have the Triumph factory custom flame job on my '03 Speedy and I noticed a little paint flaking off the inside of the cap threads and tank. At first it didn't alarm me, but now the areas where the paint has come off are rusting and the last time I did a jet change at the end of last season, I noticed some orange residue in my float bowls.

I've got a new petcock coming from Brent, which I hope has a better filter on it than stock, but I want to stop the rusting problem in the tank. I was thinking I'd drain the tank, clean it and shoot some Rustoleum in there. That's the only idea I've had so far.

Your input on this would be greatly appreciated.

I'm fairly certain I remember a few people discussing this problem (paint flaking off as you describe) on this board last summer. I think that there was a batch of tanks that weren't painted properly, and that those who complained had it sorted under warranty.

The tank on my Speedy (registered in 04, but had been sat in the dealers for a while before that) is the same. I'm going to talk to the dealer about it at the first annual service.

That was exactly what I was looking for, Simon. Thank you very much.

My dealer's future is a little shakey right now, so I'll be doing this repair myself.
