Thanks, that's better than I could have hoped for. Now I'll head out to the NAPA store and see if they have the connectors.

...but what am I doing with the 4th loose wire from the tach? Does anybody have a wiring diagram that explains what I am looking at and what I want?
Panda- There is a hot to power the tach, and a hot to power the light. They are tied together and connected to a hot wire. You will be using wires from 2 different plugs. The plug with 2 wires is Red-coil, green-hot with ignition on. There is a 3 wire plug (clock), brown wire from this plug is ground. Whitt posted a link to instructions earlier in this thread.

Whitt- Have you noticed the DS tach light is really bright? I've got mine in console, but I am going to move it up next to speedo. Does yours bother you on pitch-black roads?

Good luck finding any kind of connector that will fit anything... I think you're gonna learn to be a good solderer If you find some good connectors, buy a whole box! We'll need em. In fact, when I went looking for ANY multi-prong connector I came up short. I'm sure they are out there, but not the isial places. Mostly just stuff for specific applications.

You guys rock! Thank you for the help. I did get the tach installed. The light is much brighter than the speedo. I found some single connectors at an auto parts store (5 per box) so I can unplug it again if I want to move it around or remove it.
I notice that the light does not come on if the kill switch is off (the headlight, console warning lights, and speedo are all still lit). Is that right?
I rigged it to my handle bars with an old windshield clamp, but I am open to ideas that look better...

I'd have to check about the kill switch thing.
I bent a small piece of aluminum up and bolted it to the bottom of the tripple tree where the wire retainer thingie once was. I kep the original bolt, so I just tossed a split lock washer under it and toghtened it down. Rock solid. I also used the single quick connects on mine. Very simple, but a 3-prong one would be super.

The dealer wanted almost $70 for that tiny wiring harness that connects directly to the tach and the light. I can't get myself to pay that for just that tiny clump of wires. I found a connector that would fit the tach itself at a hobby store for about $2.50 and a light that will work for about $2.00. The color codes don't match but that won't matter once the connectors are made up.

At least for the tiny connector that goes to the tach. It finally dawned on me that I'd seen similar connectors on remote control aircraft and dune buggy electronics. If fits perfectly, and for a lot less than $68.

Well I'd love just a source for multi-lead quick disconnects of ANY kind!

Yes it is bright, but it doesn’t bother me.

Ohhhhh baby jackpot! I may have to get me a few of each! I can think of at least two or three uses already. Not to mention aftermarkey signals...

Yeah I have the 3 quick connects for the tach under the dash, and two more under there for my driving light switch... it's getting kinda crowded! That would clean it up immensly.
