The reason Triumph never did this is "cheap". Your proposal involves an extra bracket, mounting bolt(s), splitter block, banjo fitting and brake line. As you must be aware by now, these bikes are built down to a price - cost-paring is very evident (shox, fork springs, spokes etc. etc.). Your plan should work OK - the master cylinder will still have to move the same volume of fluid so it should not need upgrading (although I've heard that some people have used the RIII master cylinder with some success - it has a bigger swept volume and moves more fluid and gives a bit more power.)
