Is anyone close to/in Baltimore willing try GlennB's foot bar modification? I've got the bar if you've got the cutting and welding skills and want to make a couple bucks.

I have thought about that too... Have you had a chance to sit on it to see how it feels?

I would like forward controls too, but I don't want them that much more forward. I would also like to leave the master cylinder behind the pipe. I'm thinkin' a billet style foot peg bracket for each side, a longer shift rod and an extended brake lever.

benny, no i haven't but with me being 6'3" it'd have to be an improvement. besides that's why i bought another foot bar!! just in case it sucks.

eric, if you can do it for around $150 i'll buy one!!

that's true, seems like the chance is worth it... Wonder if you could get a longer shift rod from Brent?

I have customers/friends who own a tool & die shop. They are also avid drag racers. They could fabricate what I need for sure. But $150.00 price limit might be tough. If I get one made I'll be sure to post.

eric, how would you deal with/accomodate the brake pedal hose and the header? that seems to be a big problem.

The mod was really simple to do, and the shift rod was only a piece of 3/8" bar cut to length once the foot pegs were in place. i got the length right, drilled a couple of holes in the end, re-used the threads off the original shift rod, welded them in the holes, and had the whole thing rechromed. The only expense was a bit of 3/8" bar, and the re-chroming, plus my little spacers had to be chromed. I turned them up but you could use heavy wall hollow bar.

i took the photos on a bright day so they didnt come out as well as i would have liked. if anyone wants they can drop me a line and i'll send closer ones in more detail. i'll try and update the photos eventually

glenn, i'm assuming you cut off and reused the mounting brackets? and what "little spacers" are you referring to? i for one would like a 'step by step' if you have the time....

you're correct, i did reuse the mounting brackets. They were re-welded in the same position on the other side of the pipes.
Give you a run down. on a steel bench top, i welded some scrap angle standing upright, and drilled some holes to allow me to bolt the pipe to it so it was like a jig. I then welded a couple of smaller bits on an angle for the mounting brackets.i cut the bars thru the solid part at each end as the pipe are hollow. Turned the bars over 180 degrees, and tacked them to the ends that were still in the "jig". Cut the mounting brackets off, and inverted them. Lost a little bit of material height in doing this to the mounting brackets, but i would of needed the spacers anyway. Once it was all tacked together, took it off the jig and fully welded it, cleaned it up then had it re-chromed.
If you look closely at where the bars normally mount, you will see some small chromed spacers to stand out the bars away from the frame, it also set the distance right to miss the exhaust.
I am just short of 6 ft but sit right up on the tank, and i find it quite comfortable on a long run. The only fiddly bit was trying to neaten up the brake line. Although it doesnt show it in the photos, it still looks messy to me. i will probably get around to re-running the whole line in new tubing. The selector rod was as i described earlier. They normally bend anyway, but there is no way this one will.
